We have a two year deal that I use so I don't have to smog again next year and also you save about 40 bucks over yearly.
Going for smog this morning.

Anyone here with a Subwoofer setup with the factory headunit? Usually I replace it, but in my 528 I spent the money on an '03 CD53, round to flat pin conversion, and factory AUX in. I could just swap it from one car to the other but then adding a sub is a little different. I'm looking into a line out converter bit I wanted to see if anyone has used a setup like this.
And to clarify, I am looking for MEGA, aftermarket-make-fridgerators-fall, big bass. Ha! Just kidding sorta. Contemplating a single 12 or 15. I had 2 Type R 12s in the trunk of my 325is and I had a pretty slick Type R 8 in my M3 vert. I want just enough to annoy the neighbors but not be impractical for getting groceries. |

Haven't had subwoofers since my dual 12" Rockford Fosgate Punch 500's back in 2004. I sold that setup for a set of rims and haven't invested in sound systems for any of my cars since.
That being said, BSW (bavsound.com) one of our forums sponsors, sells a very clean factory upgrade Subwoofer kit, and upgraded plug and play speaker kits for our cars if you are into subtle upgrades and improved sound, but not audio show worthy. I think the sub kit sold by BSW is an 8" if memory serves correct. If I ever blow my speakers I'll be going with BSW replacements for my DSP equipped X.

I'm familiar with their kits as it was an option in my E36 convertible. But I was not interested in their factory-eske "free air" design. I opted to build my own box for my 8. People on BFC asked me to build them but my dad is stingey with his tools.

just looked at their kit. 175w in an 8in is a good deal but its still not the amount of power I am looking for. I was putting together 750w to a Type R 15. BSW's 8in kit is 659. My shopping cart with all the install materials is 486. Even so, I will likely hold off for a while, be sure all the maintenance is up to par.

I had a nice system in my Z that I kept. I installed my APPRADIO3 and it sounded so good I sold the amps (finally) I still have my 10" Digital Designs woofer and might if I can get a box use it but for now I found I am content with the stock DSP speakers, sub & amps.

I have a sub with mono amp on the old 3.0i when I sold it. I tapped the line output converter into the rear speaker wire for signal to the mono amp.
I'm waiting on the passive crossover that German Audio Solution develop for DSP system (E39 and E53) My iS seriously lack in bass. The crossover will get rid of the DSP amp, then your head unit will convert back to analog automatically. I'll power everything with a 5-channel Alpine amp and run a JBL 12" in the custom sub-box in place of the DSP box. Quote:

So a quick evening update. Yesterday I had to break into my X5! Tonight I had to jump start it. But after jumping it, I was able to sync the X5 key fob. I tested it several times but left the truck unlocked in case the battery discharges overnight. For the second time I had a pretty extensive set of lights on the dash. Yesterday during heavy braking I had the EML, Traction control, Brake, ABS lights all come on. During heavy braking today, the same situation came up. I took note that the Speedo, Tach, Odometer, trip and cruise all still functioned. Has anyone had this happen to them? I am familiar with ABS module and wheel speed sensor woes from working on several E39s. I have an indy mechanic that for 25 bucks will hook up a SnapOn diagnostics tool that can live data log the ABS computer and all its inputs (speed/brake/yaw/pitch). I hate handing the dude my money though. Anyone else experienced this? Obligatory pic of dash lights below. The check engine and air bag lights are always on. I have the reset tool for the air bag, and haven't diagnosed the CEL. Can anyone suggest some simple and free software I could download for diagnostics?
