Question 19" Wheel styles & Tires?

So, my time-waster for today's lunch break runs from my perusing BMW wheels for sale on the local Craigs List, and comparing to bmwstylewheels dot com. Am I correct that E53s with 19" wheels are either BMW style 132 or 152, and all come staggered [9" w in front, 10" in back?]. Given the frequent appearance of BMW wheels/tires on ATL Craigs List, and my "Rush" influenced consideration of the Road Atlanta BMWCCA driving course next September, I'm considering a set of 19s to mount high performance summer tires for the summer. Are these my only options that directly 'fit' the E53? [I want OEM, used and relatively cheap, no aftermarkets, please]. Any suggestions? What high-performance summer tires, size/brand/reasonably priced, do you suggest? I had good luck with Yokos on my old E36.

Mine has the sport package, and 'sports' 18x8.5" Style 131s, mounting 255/55-18 Conti DWS all-season tires, which I am very happy with.

I personally think style 132 look really nice. It's kind of hard to find them on Clist used.
There was a shop in Marietta asking 900 for a set a few days ago. Not sure if they still have them.

It's easier to find the Y-spoke that was on the 00-04 model. I forget the wheel style number. But they don't look as nice as the 132.

Alecu, am I correct that the 19" sport pkg wheels are staggered [9 front, 10" wide back]? Are yours [on your avatar] 19" 132s? what tires are you riding?

My build sheet shows the sport package, but mine has 18x8.5 wheels all around. The build sheet doesn't identify the wheel style/size. I'm wondering if mine didn't lose its original 19s at some point? Do sport package E53 come with 18s, as mine wears?

Correct, these are the 132's. They are staggered, 9" x 10".
I have Michelin Diamaris 4x4. I like the tires, they are very quiet on the road.

They do wear a little quick. I think all Michellins do. They're softer tires. I have a set of Michelins on the SL500 and I barely got about 20K miles out of them.

Not sure yet what I'm going to put on the X5 next.

The sport package on 3.0 always came with 18" wheels, yours are style 131's Riggo.

My sport package came equipped with Style 69 on pre-facelift.

19" wheels were an option even if you equipped with sport package as far as I know from other setups. The only time I believe that 19" wheels MIGHT have been equipped standard with sport package is in the 4.4 models, as I seem to see them with the Style 63 and the Style 132's the most. Qsilver please correct me if i'm wrong.

Yes Riggo the 19" (132's look best on your facelift) are 9" wide in front and 10" wide in rear, and utilize 255/50/19 F and 285/45/19 Rear.

Be aware though, you have EXTREMELY limited tire choices in those staggered tires, believe me I looked.

Which is what led me to skip the 19" setup and go straight to the OEM staggered 20" sizes in the 168's I selected, believe it or not depending on brand the tires for the 20's are cheaper since they are more popular sizes.

You live in Atlanta, why not just get a set of Style 87 or Style 168 with some nice summer tires? 20's would look proper and belong on a sporty, manual E53 like yours!

If you're set on OE 19's Riggo here is a set of 132's, they do need some curbage refinishing but overall look clean, looks like you can snag for $1100 shipped which is high but 132's aren't exactly a wheel thats found everyday.

Agree, true 132s are staggered, and tire brands are limited and not cheap...

Have Michey Diamaris on mine: they are OK, though the meaty block tread is not what I would consider a 'summer tire', but maybe the Michey engineers know something I don't...

Good shape OEs are not cheap either: have seen several sets with curb rash, few with little to none. I copped my set several years ago from an old poster here. They were pristine.

They look good, though I doubt they offer any benefit over the 18s with the sport pkg, other than cosmetics and more expensive tire replacement costs.
GL, mD

And, fwiw Style 63s were also on E53s, usually on the V8s, and as aftermkt add on mod for the non-V8s, IIRC. They too are staggered, but not my pick of looks.

The staggered 19s were an add on option in addition to the sport pkg.

OP, don't rush the purchase. I sat on my hands for over a year waiting for an ultra-light (rear tire/rim assembly under 50 lbs), non-OE set-up. Grabbed a set of discontinued Envy E46 ///M3 wheels/almost new tires off e-bay with the correct 255-285 X sport size tires......$600 + shipping.

If you plan on tracking the X, unsprung weight matters!

Deals come up every few months due to motivated sellers (moving, need cash NOW).

TiAgX5, I had seen and admired the pix of your wheels. RB, I wasn't considering 20s because of concerns about ride, but might think again, if it expands tire choices. I'm communicating with a guy about a set of style 258s [19x9, 10 staggered], I think off a newer X6, but the offset/ET on the 10" are 21mm, with the E53 showing permissible ET of 30-48mm [my 18s have an ET of 48mm, I believe; 132s in 10" have an ET of 45mm]. I can add spacers to the 258s, but wonder if that would push the 10s too close [or even rub ...] the fenders. Plus - I'm looking for deals. I'm not spending $1000+ for summer wheels in ATL; I suppose I could just swap out the DWS for the summer with 18" performance tires [maybe yokos], then have the DWS remounted, if I don't locate a good local deal on OEM 19s or 20s.

My old 3.0 ride just fine on the 20" wheels, so does my iS now.
The 19x10 with ET21 would be pretty close to the fender already. Why would you want a spacer to push it out more?
