Kinda doubt if Autozone has the right scanner to scan the EGS module in your X. Those are most likely OBD II codes.

You need a more sophisticated diag/scan interface+software, to pin point the issue.

You can google those BMW specific codes for now

If you turn off the car, and from a cold start, does it behave normal

Please verify @ reoloem.com

I am just assuming this is your transmission -> The A5S-440Z (also known as the 5HP24)

BMW Automatic Transmission – V8 – Slow Reverse – A5S-440Z, 5HP24, 540i, 740i, 840i, X5 | Bavarian Autosport Blog

ZF Updates
http://blog.bavauto.com/wp-content/u...ce-letter1.pdf

EDITS:

I have never owned a BMW with a ZF transmission, most owners recommend Life Guard AT Fluid only and BMW OE filter/gasket kit.

You need to get your vehicle scan/diagnose by GT1 or autologic it will read all BMW specific module - BMW Indy shops or dealership

Good luck!

Have you ever worked on a car? On a BM Trouble U? Do you have a decent set of tools?

I have never changed my alternator yet although I experienced one time glitch ( under charging ).

But with the said incident , it forced me to look at the X alternator specs which is valeo 140amp

I highly recommend that you do the same, check your current alternator specs
And search youtube, BMW forums for DIY

Plus Decide later for rebuild (replace defective parts, keeping the orig unit ) VERSUS rmfd (95% new, core charge if you surrender your unit) VERSUS new unit (no core charge)

Some say stick to BMW parts ( but stay away from units made in Mexico )

Some say aftermarket is a good alternative

You have a 2001 with an M62..

Hello water cooled alternator. If you're not handy with tools and familiar with cooling systems and belts... Take it to someone who is. If you are confident in your mechanical ability go for it. It's hard to get to, but once you figure it out it's not a difficult job.
