Trans fail comes on for just about everything and has nothing to do with the trans most of the time.

I see you have a 01 4.4. They have a recall for a bad natural safety switch. If the car idles for 5 mins or so and you pull away it goes in transfail mod it's probably the neutral safety switch... So you idle for 5-7-10 minutes and the light comes on while stopped in park engine running it the switch...try that.

If it happens while your driving at speed after you have been driving a while could be anything from alternator-battery-ASB system and more.

Have your dealer run the vin for the recall.

MY 02 had the transfail come on and it was the neutral safety switch. I tried to get the dealer to replace it under warrantee but the production date was out by 2-3 months and they said no. I had the defective switch in my production run. I would idle for about 7 minuets and the light came on. Sometimes I would drive for a half hour and pull in the driveway and as soon as I put it in park the transfail came on.

I never had the check engine light come on.
