I'll make you a deal:

You promise to engage in the open, welcoming, positive force for new members by making the consistent choice not to p!ss all over someone's choice of engine. Ever. But *especially* not in someone's intro thread...

In return, I won't offer my advice that anyone might improve his, her, or our collective life by stepping away from something that brings such a negative locus to so many others. For the sake of clarity, in case we have any Personal Polly's here: not just ONE someone- ANY someone.

Do we have a deal?

Perhaps that explains your attitude here. Seems to me that you are the one with the attitude.

Wow, what a fail of a response to an intro post. And you failed right through the rest of the thread. Nice work.

Well it *would* seem that way if you were trying hard not to answer a tough question.

You still haven't answered:

Well, does it seem fair? Is it what you meant? Was that a typo as well?

--------

You're not getting out of that by deflecting with a typo. But I do have other questions:

How do you feel the community is served by yours or anyone's unsolicited, negative opinion and energy about your poor experiences? Do you really think that they belong within a large group of people who gather together to help one another have a MORE positive experience? Could they still be offered but in a more friendly, less foreboding, perhaps even more *positive* way? Is that just too much effort? That's why we're here after all. It's why MOST of us are, anyway. Unless... Well, unless it's not.

-------
edited to remove some of that negativity *I* was bringing here.
-------

Here's some other thoughts:

Is it possible that what started out for you as a labor of love- posting, helping, even being friendly to folks with troubles as you delivered the tough messages- Is it possible that it's become just a labor for you? Do you feel that people are siphoning off your experience with little or no appreciation for what it took for you to gain it? Is that at the core of this newly negative 'welcome to the suck' from you? "Oh great. A new poster. Soon enough I'll be carrying his troubles too."

Well, maybe that's not it. Maybe it is. But at least offer some thought to the hesitation with which you once offered newbies advice on owning a used BMW. Remember how helpful and welcoming you once were. It wasn't fake (was it?). No, of course not. You were clearly happy to help. You granted the benefit of the doubt. People stuck around bc you actually helped. You did that.

I think you can do it again in just the same way. I hope you can. For the hope within those of us who hope to spend at least some of our retirement passing time on media like this. I think that the older these cars get and the younger the owners are, the more we need to help them make good on their experience. If not with an E53, at least with the forum. No one walks in a room for the first time and expects a slap in the face. Extend your hand. Welcome them. It's the very least we can do as a community.

Wow! What a "welcome" thread! Can I just say Welcome to the OP, enjoy your ride!!!
I have been lusting after a "Beast" myself and there is one local Imola Red, very tempting. Must resist!!! Lol..

Tmv, have to make it out to you one day to test drive yours for a "feel"..

This thread has been derailed greatly! There should be NO negativity/bad experience in a welcoming/introduction thread. As I said before, that will take away the enjoyment of the new owner(s) and make them second-guessing their decision.
BMRSEB, let me know and I'll have you experience "The Beast". Warning: the Dinan exhaust sound is VERY addicting
