If I relate my 30 + years of diesel experience to the symptoms, I would also check fuel delivery for obstructions/pressure. Are there any fuel screens inline, banjo fittings, etc.? I have not paid close attention to what has already been discussed in the thread. |

Does the smoke come out of the rear (exhaust) or seem to be more towards the left front door? Remebber that the Webasto (diesel powered) engine pre-heater has an exhaust that exits under the sill (rocker panel) near the front left door. I've seen other colleagues get REALLY worried in winter / cold.
Check what type of Castrol oil they put in your engine at the most recent service. If it's not the right type & spec, this indeed could cause short term smoke and long term issues (coking, sludge, clogging of your DPF, etc.). It MUST be an LL-04 spec oil. Check castrol.co.uk to be sure what meets this.

Smoking never resolved I just began to live with it but now starting to annoy me maybe as it is more visible in cold Car has done 80k miles The following have been done so far - new oil service - new air filter - fuel filter - Vortex filter added - glow plugs changed - injector tested via a smooth running software all with thresholds - no smoke from dipstick - EGR blanked (just ordered a OEM one today to replace) - pipes have been checked no visible signs Anything else you need to know |

Just got your PM
Hi, Thats good. You done quite a lot of the things that could give you the smoke. Moving on!I asked how many miles you had ,just incase you had a tired engine,200k plus and was consuming oil but since you said the smoke was a diesel smell ,and your car only done 80k,then this is eliminated! You are sure thats its not also oil smoke? If its definitely just a diesel smell and your plugs ,injectors, filters are all good, then it just leaves me the ECU! My question now is,has it been remmaped ? Give me some history about the car,or remind me!Did the car always smoke since you purchased it?This is why I think it could be a bad ecu remap!Let me know this ,before I explore other possibilities.

Any difference in smoke ,cold and warm engine?
Does it smoke warm ,at idle or just on acceleration? What grade oil are you using? You car is still relatively low mileage ,at 80k,but given that everything else been checked and especially the injectors being on acceptable parameters(they should read near "0" ,min-max -1.5 to +1.5 at idle),I hope its not Turbo ! Can you tell me if when the injectors were tested ,was the EGR system (especially vacuum) connected?. Has a full diagnostic been done on the engine? Can you disconnect the MAF (airflow meter).Just remove the front engine cover and pull out the plug with the help of a small screw driver.Drive the car and tell me if there is any difference to smoke or performance?

I just had a look at your thread on xdrivers and your injector values! +5 to -4 are a bit high and could be why its smoking .
Mine had 5 injectors at -1 to -1.5 and 1 injector clogged at +6,or lets say that the other 5 were automatically reducing pressure to compensate for the number 6 high value! I remove injectors and just cleaned them all ,tested them and all reading near "0" like new. They are easy to remove and to clean! Who fitted your vortex filter? Is it fitted properly?
