Transfer case fluid done!

So - my Romanian scanner thing arrived last night. This morning I had it all up and running, so I did the fluid change in the transfer case and the adaptations reset with the software and the cable.

I just got back from a run in it - and wow what a difference!!!! It's all so much smoother now, with no vibration at all. Previously I would get a little vibration around 20 mph or so and maybe a bit under heavy acceleration

The old fluid looked like coffee and had a burnt-smell to it.

I used this stuff. It needed the whole liter too. I maybe had an extra ounce or two.

Where in the software did you do the reset? My cable arrives soon and I need to do this. Thanks!

You know - I couldn't tell you exactly. I fiddled a bit with the software and found the "service functions" screen. Looks like this...

Thanks. I'll give it a go. I ended up making a "brake bleed manual" for my E36, just because I could never remember all the steps to get to the same spot. I'll probably do the same for transfer case reset, transmission reset, and brake bleed for the E53.

What software are you guys using? Looks like bavtechnic doesn't support the reset for the e53. It does on other models.
Thanks

I am using the "Romanian" hardware/software package. It looks like it's an older copy of the full-on BMW dealer software "DIS" from 2007-ish.

It comes with a cable and a couple DVD with the software / drivers. Once you get it up and running - you'll see that it's a SCO UNIX image that runs inside of VMware.

$40-something shipped. Easy to follow installation procedures. You can't beat that!

If the DIS has procedures to help with brake-bleed I'll have to check that out. That's on my short-list. I picked-up a harbor freight bleeder kit last weekend, and will probably flush/bleed within the next few weeks.

I saw some of the other reset options in there, but haven't touched them yet. I'll have to look into the transmission reset to see if it's something that's worth-it / good-to-do.

I don't want to reset something - and make the car angry!

Did you guys have any problems installing the software? Mine keeps freezing up. I am a little nervous installing something from Romania in my computer especially since his website is down. Looks like feedback is fine. Anything weird on your end?
Thanks
