Just Passed 100K Miles

Well the old car did, and it is in pretty good shape (2003 3.0i). Here is list of what I have done to it:

3 Window Regulators (did the last one myself and can't believe how easy it was)
2 Door Lock actuators (broke the door handle assembly and replaced it too)
1 Electronic Throttle Body
1 Valve cover gasket
2 front axles (did one myself, and it was a bear to get it out of the diff)
lower and upper control arms (all day job, tough one)
Brake jobs (these got me started being a home mechanic)

Thanks to this website and some others I have been successful at doing most of the work myself and have saved thousands.

The car is a California desert car so it has fared quite well. What else should be coming up on this car?

Ricky Bobby will become famous soon enough
DISA valve rebuild, CCV perhaps?

Driveline fluids (diffs, transfer case)

Cooling system overhaul with water pump expansion tank, hoses and thermostat

Brake flush

Rear suspension replacement of ball joints in swing arm, wishbones, integral links, subframe bushings

Spark plugs if you didn't do them with the valve cover gaket

Just a few things I'm thinking of off the top of my head

I thought I had a bad CCV so I took it to a good indy shop, but they said it was good aand did the plugs and gasket.

Thermostat has been done and I flushed the cooling system. All the pipes looked good. The diff fluid was clean when I did the axle.

Not looking forward to the rear suspension. I am gonna have to look up this DISA valve.

Good luck, is all I can say. I've had my 03 3.0i for six years now. Get ready for massive cooling system failures (water pump, tank, etc.), alternator, etc. Mine is in the shop right now for a new axle, valve cover gasket (third one), and oil pan gasket. I've totaled everything up, and over the years i've laid out close to $17k in service. Most weren't even done at the dealer but at an indy. I think I have finally had enough and will be putting it up for sale once I get it back Monday. Sad, because it's the first car I got to choose and pay for myself. (I was 22 when I bought it). Good memories, but I can no longer justify its constant need for attention and cash.

Just passed 115,000 miles in my 3.0d. Total repairs to date:

- Interior light cable connected, it was not wired at manufacture
- Two parking sensors, front, either side of the number plate
- Becker BM54 radio amplifier fix (worth doing anyway as it improves the audio)

Total cost of non service/consumable repairs £220 / US$360 in nine years. Still averages 33mpg (UK, about 27.5mpg US), is on only its third set of tyres as they seem to last 40,000 each time.

Car feels like it will do a lot more miles. Best car I've owned, will be sad when the day comes to part with it.

Jealous. It's built 60 miles down the highway from me, but the US didn't get the diesel model. That's why I'm looking at ML320 CDIs.
