Replacing all coolant hoses (Yes/No)

Hey guys,

I'm putting together the list of the parts to get ready for the valley pan, valve cover, ccv, plugs and need advice on whether I should replace all the coolant hoses (could be expensive for all) or just do the main one and the expansion tank. My look totally ok which most of the time you can't tell when it will go bad.

Thank you for the advices.

What's the mileage on the truck?

If you need to replace one cooling system component, it would not be unreasonable to replace them all while you're there.

I thought same as you before. In previous makes of cars I would replace things just as they break.

I tried that with the X5. After replacing the top hose, my ET started leaking.

During the ET change, I replaced all hoses under the cooling system diagram...but not the ones for the heater system. (And i had a bunch of those because of the aux heating system option)

When I replaced my alternator some months later I discovered a heater system hose beneath the intake just about ready to give. Replaced all the hoses under there. Lucky I caught them before they stranded me somewhere.

I should've just gotten them all out of the way in the first place LOL.

Another option would be to do the hard to access hoses now while youre in there, and leave the easy ones for next time if money is tight.

Do check your belts, belt tensioners and pulleys too. Good time to check and replace them if needed.

My is currently at 92k miles. The water pump, belt, thermostat were done by dealer about 2 years ago before I bought the car. I'll get all the hoses in the list and go through the car 1 more time and will make the decision. Definitely the hard to reach will get replaced such as rye heater hoses near the firewall

Sounds like a solid plan.

A lot of people replace the temp sensor on the lower hose, but I dont think the sensor itself fails often, I think it leaks where it's inserted. I just replaced the O-ring on mine.

Yes, do a complete replacement while you are in there. Check pump for play. Did they replace it with plastic impeller? Be careful, the connections are plastic and a tricky one to slide off. Have fun. Good luck.

I'd do all hoses because of age at this point, not necessarily mileage.

My suggestion is a bit different. And may be a bit strange to quite a few people. I say get the e30 1.4 bar expansion tank cap. Replace hoses that are a bitch only, and especially the ones in the area you are working in. This is the plan to save a couple of bucks instead of replacing all the hoses.

Our 2 bar caps are a recipe for blowing up the weakest link. And our new hoses are barelly designed to sustain 2 bar. So when you replace a failed component, it is generally recommended to replace all the hoses, as the weakest link has now been shifted. Even though i replaced all the hoses, i still installed the 1.4 cap. My hope is to prolong my valley pan or some concealed internal coolant passage/pipe from exploding.
