Yup. Here too. Planning a 6,000 mile roundie across the country in mine next month. It will include scenic (read curvy) roads that I have picked out just for the pleasure of driving it in the X. Can't wait.

This year brings us to:

Almost 14 years and 3 E53's (2 remain, the 3rd is in service next door). We've driven them over 300,000 miles. Never. Not once stranded. Ever.

Quite the opposite, actually.
  • Ran off the road in rain at Interstate speeds and at night in my 2004 3.0. Ended up stuck for a minute in the median. Eventually, the ole X5 and some solid rocking horse action got me free of the deep mud. Then it was XDrive (2004 and up) to the rescue as I navigated up a slippery, grassy median to return home. Safe. With my girls. A better feeling has never been delivered by any car, ever.
    .
  • Mother in law had a sheet of plywood fly up on the Interstate. Caught her right below the headlights. Took out bumper, passenger mirror, Windshield and hood. She didn't even have to break stride. Her 2001 3.0 just motored on- directly to the body shop.

These are great cars that give back what you put in!

B M Trouble Urs!

They day I have to rent a car, is the day I sell the X5, and didn't buy another BMW to replace it. I do have a brand new 4Runner, it replaced the F150. But I still drive the X every chance I get. My car seats are in it too. I prefer to drive it over a brand new car, especially with my kids. If I can make stuff fit into the X, I drive the X.

Cool! That's where I will be with my family! Seattle is my mid way destination. I will be there for 10 days, then the wife and daughter meet me at SeaTac for a couple more. Then we all take the scenic route back for a week.

If I see another blue 4.8is, I'll wave!

I always rent for long trips. Not because I am concerned about problems with my X5 but because I don't like adding trip miles, not as much fun miles. We don't have time to take the scenic route, I don't know the roads and at least once on the trip one of those boards or truck rubber will be flying around. Worse yet there are all those trucks hauling sand, gravel or cement that are spraying everything behind them that you have to pass.

I've driven cross country, although not in the X from East Pennsylvania to Seattle or "SeaTac" where i stayed for a day..

I drove the northern route which takes you thru all the northern states, North Dakota/Montana although long as hell, definitely something to do once in your life. Never before would I have gone to those states but i really enjoyed it.

Montana has more of a change in scenery then ND, but in ND with the rolling hills and i believe it is a lot higher from sea level then east coast where i lived, it feels like your a ton closer into the sky and driving into it in a sense.

The longest trip in my X has been from East PA to San Antonio ~1750 miles.

Yeah tell me about it. Road construction between Louisville KY and Birmingham Alabama. The rental got peppered with debris from a truck that didn't bother to put the tarp over the load. Felt bad for the guy that just picked up his new Corvette in Bowling Green Ky.
