In contrast, I got better fuel mileage with Iridium spark plugs.

Me too but that is just a small sample.

I would recommend that anyone who have a drop off in fuel economy do a recheck on plug gaps, coil connections, pull codes, and perform a good visual for vacuum lines etc not connected.

Did all that. No codes, no loose vacuum lines or leaks, just lower fuel mileage.

Bump for more exposure as way too many owners of X5 left the normal fall maintenance of plug changing time to "it now winter and I have hard starting etc." Gee maybe when it is warm you should do all the pre season prep work like oil changes, Oil Separator, vacuum lines, cooling systems, brake, air intake checks? NAAAAAAAaaa wait until it is really cold then do it.

Now I am off to fix a no fuel pressure isssue after hand washing issue.... looks like pump, fuse, relay? Testing we will go, testing we will go,.......

Here's a link as a follow on to this discussion: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...ium-plugs.html

Pulled iridium plugs after 36000 miles and the gap had opened up .020"+ and the electrodes were melted. Some suggested they were fake as I purchased from Amazon. Maybe. I don't know. I'm going to purchase a new set from Rockauto.com assuming they have a higher probability of not being fake and see what happens. If they were it could be why my mileage went down when I installed them.
