New X5, 4th BMW - wheel and tire question
I've already replaced two window regulators, and fixed another window, rebuilt the transmission, put new rear rotors and pads, and replaced the front struts and lower control arms. I now seem to have the mechanical issues behind me and am beginning to work on more cosmetics. My X5 has the 19" staggered sport wheel and tire setup, which I like the look of. Any recommendations on another wheel and tire setup to maintain the aggressive look, while offering more tire options? Last edited by mjcotton; 07-22-2014 at 08:31 AM. Reason: Added more verbage |

You have come to the right place for your X5 information. Most will recommend style87. They are 20" set that came on the 4.6iS. Much more choices for tires and better looking for sure. Also style168 on the 4.8iS is another nice choice too. I went aftermarket since I had my HRE 648R on the old 3.0i, and I like wheels with lip Style 87 Style 168

Congrats on the buy, and getting it shipshape, Bristol fashion, etc. The 20" 87s are very desirable, and give you access to more tire options. Unfortunately, they are hard to find. I looked for them for a couple of months [internet, Craigs list, etc.] and they get snapped up quickly at premium prices. As I recall, one internet retailer sells refurbished 87s for around $375 each, when available, if you include shipping. I ended up getting a great deal on E70 18" style 209s to mount summer performance tires; mine was already running 18" wheels. See other options on bmwstylewheels dot com.

Well if you step up to 20" Wheel and tire set you will have a ton more options on tire sizes, 255/50 and 285/45 aren't the most popular sizes in the world...
I was going to get Style 87 for my X5 but figured it might be too subtle without the iS kit on my car, so I got Style 168's with Toyo tires and am very happy with the look, truly changes the E53 to go from stock 18" setup to 20" staggered.

If I were to stick with the current 19" sport wheels, what options would folks recommend I consider for tires. I live in Charlotte, NC, so I don't deal with "much" snow or ice each winter. Mostly rainy winters.

Whats your budget like.
Browsing Tire Rack if you put in your stock sizes you have 15 options, ranging from Kumho and Hankook up to Bridgestone Dueler and Pirelli P Zero Rosso, and then Continental Cross Contacts and Micheli Diamaris at the highest end. I'd probably get the Duelers or the Pirellis and be happy if I was in NC, not a fan of the mickeys or the Conti tire options for your sizes.

Tire Rack stocks a limited selection of 255-50-19 / 285-45-19. There are numerous other tires available if you search, ContiSportContact 5 SSR & Yokohama Advan Sport come in the E53 19" stagger size to name a few.

My budget is flexible. Want to get the best bang for the buck though. Have been running Michelins on my e39, but am open to try another tire.
