Who is they? Who performed the repair? The same place which diagnosed the problem as a scored cylinder?

The dealer misdiagnosed the problem as a scored cylinder? Then, after you diagnosed the problem as valve stem seals, you had them perform the repair which may have resulted in their damaging something else?

Good luck. Hope they own up to whatever went wrong with the head repair.

Suggestions in no particular order:

1) If you have any friends or relations that go by "mayhem" or "chainsaw", bring them along. (Note: I haven't tried this as my relations are of the "shlomo" type).

2) Watch "Doc Hollywood" tonight and imagine yourself at Michael J. Fox and your supposedly factory trained BMW guy as Melvin saying "See, I always wanted an excuse to buy me a set of metric tools."

I'm limited in Saskatoon to the places I can take my x5 that deal with SAL warranty. On my M5 I do all repairs myself so I have little experience with shops otherwise. I was considering doing the valve stem seals too, hindsight 20/20. Dealer has kept my wife in a brand new x1 this whole time which has helped keep my head on straight.

I hope I didn't leave the impression you made a foolish decision. I asked as I'm trying to fully understand the chain of events and who did what.

I know it was a foolish decision, and I'm also trying to work out the chain of events. Going to the dealer today. From what I've read the eccentric shaft sensor should be the problem. If the heads aren't leaking how could there be a problem with them. They'd leak if they were warped.

From the sounds of things it appears they have caused the damage. One of the reasons I take my BMW's to a mechanic is to transfer risk. If I damage something I'm responsible for repairing it. If they damage something they're responsible for repairing it. If the eccentric shaft sensor was not the problem prior to the repair and is post repair then IMO it's their responsibility to fix on their dime.

Just left the dealer. The eccentric shaft isn't clearing the area it's spinning in. The heads are tight down to the block but the upper part that holds the eccentric shaft has warped.

Was it warped before they performed the repair? Better yet what is your confidence in their ability to make such a diagnosis?
