As anal as I am when it comes to this stuff I probably will only replace the bare minimum I need to for now. I don't know how much longer I will keep the X5 so I don't want to go nuts. Are there better aftermarket parts I can go with that are not prone to this behavior?

Seems kind of crazy to me to have to replace these kind of suspension components due to normal wear and tear... Bushings I can understand but how common is it to have to replace the arms, etc...?

Considering the components are 100k miles and 14 years of age do you expect them to last forever?
Most vehicles I've owned are due for some sort of suspensions components refresh by 100k miles, thats a lot of miles and in your case a lot of time for rubber bushings and ball joints to loosen and deteriorate. If I was telling you that the components wear out every 40k I'd understand a frustration but 100k miles on these 3 ton trucks and you'll have to refresh some pieces. As far as bare minimum, if you are looking to just get your alignment correct in the rear, do the lower ball joints and the wishbone arms, I'd go with Lemforder as that is the OEM part. Stronger poly bushings are available for the subframe and the thrust arms in the front, but like you said you are doing bare minimum and the poly bushings cost much more than OEM parts.

I guess the X5 expert came in and was able to do a couple tweaks and get it within spec. Very relieved. She's riding as smooth as glass now. I still get a shudder in the steering wheel when I apply the breaks at highway speeds though. Haven't been able to chase that gremlin down. Also curios what could have caused my rear driver side to go out of spec...
Nice to be back in the X5 and sittin' on new rubber!
