315/35-20's and Toe, Camber

What should the rear suspension settings be set to for getting maximum tire life out of a staggered setup with 315/35-20's on the rear? Is it the stock camber setting having too much negative camber or excessive toe (in or out)?

Just ordered a new set of Continental DWS really don't want to fuck them up! I got a good deal on them but they were still $1070.00 and if I get get more than 7 years out of these that would be awesome!

Found a shop in Reno called Rennsport. The owner has a 2001 BMW X5 himself and state of the art equipment so I feel I should be in good hands!

Didn't 4.8is come standard with these Style 87's? What settings did they use??

Not sure about 7 years....I guess you might, if you only do 2,000 miles a year...?

Plenty of threads on this:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-settings.html

Roll up to alignment shop with your avg fill in the gas tank and simulate avg passengers on board (eg. if you drive a family around mostly, load some weight into the car.)

Make sure your tyres are inflated as specified by the manufcaturer placard inside the door.

Ask shop to set camber to minimum spec front and rear, set toe to 0.01 on rear.

Check tyre pressure every two weeks. Get alignment done every 3,000 miles (I'm guessing that, we use the metric system here :-) . I do every 5,000kms).

Alignment or do you mean tire rotation every 5k kms? That seems a little excessive.

And to the WE350z, that is a long time for tires, even without mileage. Just stay on top of tire pressure, keep rotating them, and stay on top of suspension maintenance.

^ agree with the above but :the OP can't rotate since he's running a staggered setup.

He can still rotate side to side, just not front to back. He'll have to have the tires dismounted/remounted more often. Personally it isn't something I'd bother with but I haven't tried to stretch out tire life to the very limits.

Don't think you can rotate dws tires but, I could be mistaken. A lot of tires have an "outside".

That's something I've always tried to do.

Oil and alignment ever 5,000.

Admittedly the last two cars I've owned, first one had adjustable arms and solid bushings on 30 series tyres - the setup was prone to getting knocked out by road conditions. Other was lifted 4x4 on mud grips, on trails going through ruts etc, the alignment would get knocked out pretty easily.

I figure for $40 every 5000km to prolong the life on $1k+ of your tyres, it's money well spent.

Some say this is over maintenance, but each to their own.

It only costs $40? That is extremely cheap. A good shop here charges $200.

For an alignment !?

Wow - I think I have found the only thing that is cheaper in Australia than the US! Small victories!
