GLWTS. This is a great price for a great product.

I think I’m being really stupid here but I still can’t find the springs you used and I do want some for my 4.8 in the UK. Do you have any part numbers please?

These are original from a 2003 X5. Can definitely take the rod end off.

Here are some dimensions of my inexpensive springs that may help you source some:

Spring ID: ~15mm

Uncompressed Length of 1 Spring: ~85mm

Uncompressed Length of Combined 1.5 Springs: ~130mm

The approximate 130mm length yields approximate full spring compression, also known as fully "stacked", when the hatch is closed.

The ~15mm ID may need some persuasion to thread over the ball end of the hatch strut (or unscrew it and slide on shaft). Consider wearing gloves and safety glasses during this installation process.

Your results may vary.

Got my springs installed last night. Blue like the eBay ones, for 1/3 of the price. Have a few things I want to do to it before I post up my results, as I'm not 100% happy with the springs digging into the the ball socket.

Blue doesn't shoot my hatch up fully open, but it was only 48 degrees in the garage and my struts are original from '03.

I replaced my original struts when I got my springs. They are pretty inexpensive, and the hatch has no problems popping open in the cold. Figured I would replace them as my hood was falling if the struts were cold, so I just did all 4.

I'm actually considering taking all 4 with me for the 4.4 pickup next week. I don't even know if it needs them, but if it doesn't, it will soon. Change 'em before the thing nails me in the head!

Head is ok, losing a couple fingers is my real fear lol... yeah change them out, like I said they are cheap & worth it. Hatch should stick up a bit higher too.

A quick video explaining dimensions of the springs to buy, and how to measure what you need. This cost me $8 in the end, and had some fun learning about this. Just got over 1k subscribers on my YouTube, so trying to grow it now!
