Might be better not to have these if you're prone to pressing the trunk button by accident. Imagine a rainy/snowy day, and you press the button while you're inside your home or office...

I'm worried about the amount of pressure NOW put on your softclose mechanism too, seeing as how the springs seem to "pop" that upper hatch open quickly, there must be a fair bit of pressure.

the buyers will have to buy new rear hatch gas shocks too for these, as the Bimmer parts do not have unscrewable heads, which are needed for this set-up.

I'm wondering why those who have them already (there are one or two in the thread IIRC) never mentioned anything about this?

Also, the springs *may* scratch up the chrome on the hatch strut rods and could kill them early?

g300d, yeah I wondered the same.
the last thing you wanna do is scratch the polished rod of the gas shock. any scratches on it could cause tears to the rubber sealing elements and you're then buying new gas shocks...
BUT it does seem that the spring stays at the end all the time and not slding up and down the polished rod.
I did see in a video of one of the e39's running these, he installed a brand of gas shock, with these springs,called Nitro-Lift

Neat. But I’ll be afraid that I might knock someone out if I accidentally pressed the hatch release. Besides, I like my auto lock option if I don’t open the hatch.
