Rear Ended
Just got rear ended today at a stop sign. A little sad to see her in this state but happy the driver had insurance. If you know a good place in Chicago that will fix her up, let me know. I don't want to take it to a place that's going to use aftermarket parts and have the repair looking like crap. Dude that hit me has State Farm and they tried to offer me this select thing where they take it to one of their selected shops. I'm not sure about that one. Let me know what you guys think. Also when I got hit I'm not sure if I turned her off or if she turned off herself, but I tired to start her back up and the starter clicks wont turn on anymore. Any ideas ??

That sucks! But hey, sounds like health wise you are okay nwhich is the most important part.
In my experience I would not use an insurance recommended shop. Find the absolute best body shop in town. It might be an enthusiast shop even. You can call and ask if they will pressure the insurance company to use OEM parts as they will try to get aftermarket ones. Also you can let you insurance company know and they can go to bat for you if anything comes up.

There was a guy on Chicago craigslist stripping a TitanSilber Metallic X5. You could probably get the lower hatch and rear bumper cover from him.
Most body shop will probably just pull the dent out and fill and repaint the lower hatch. Repair or replace the muffler tip on the left side. Depending on where you live, you can use Yelp to find a body shop. You can review other people reviews of the shop before going there. The impact could have knocked one of the cable loose from the battery that is why your starter is clicking.

That's to bad, sorry for ya! I know that's no fun...There's a place somewhere on the battery cable, possibly at the rear end, that explodes (implodes/separates?) upon heavy impact. Does it to break contact to prevent a possible vehicle fire during accident. I'd say that's probably what happened to yours, make sure and get the body shop to check that out when you get it fixed. I agree on finding your own shop, that way you'll have peace of mind with what's happening to it...

My wife and my 3 year old son were in the back seat when we were hit. I didn't feel the impact too much but my wife did. Thank god for seat belts. She has a headache and a bit of whiplash. But yes, most important thing is that were fine. Going to start looking around to see where I can take her. Does BMW have it's own repair shop I can take her to ?

I second that. Call up your local bmw dealer and ask who they fix their cars with.

I was rear ended at a stoplight June of last year. He had insurance through AAA. I called the BMW dealer here and was surprised they farmed theirs out to one of those heavy advertising run-of-the-mill body shops here. When I got with AAA one of their "partner" shops was a place I had work done previously and was very satisfied with both the work and service and decided to take mine there. It is also owned by a large Ford dealership. They had my X for almost three weeks because there was an exhaust bracket part they had to order from Germany because the dealer network was out at the time and they only used factory replacement parts. Fortunately I had a rental provided. My entire rear bumper and enforcement brackets was all replaced as well as one full rear side of the exhaust system. The paint matched perfectly.
Several years ago my wife was rear ended in her Land Rover Discovery and they had State Farm and came through wonderfully. That thing cost almost 7 grand and took almost 6 weeks to get done. Great that you and your family are OK.

Rear Ended
![]() ![]() Sorry to hear that!!! On the other note, I have that whole trunk tailgate just in case you need an OEM oeoduct. Body shop will sometimes be require to purchase Non New items Check your estimate if it says " A/M " means it will be aftermarket pieces, as sometimes the value of your car vs value of damage may not tie up to what new items will cost being that market value of your car maybe less than what damage really in their eyes. I do hve all the prts you may need Or any other typ of parts for your x5. Usually u can have your body shop's adjuster pay them $200 maximize your damage keep the check find used OE products Have your body paint and install it. Ps You didnt hear that from me. Lol.
