I have one in the e38 sub forum of bimmerfourms. It's an e38, but basically the same. Only change is the x5's external oil seperator.

Get the crankshaft secured with the tool or something hadnmade, don't torque just with the flywheel pin inserted, that way you may destroy the housing.

I used an old crank pulley. I welded a bar to one side that can rest against either the ac compressor or the frame rail. Works great.
I would also suggest not using just the flywheel pin to hold it.

How many miles does the timing chain last? Had over 130k miles in my 540 and it was fine. Thanks
