I just bought a module 84106963798
built 6/09/05
I have no snap adapter and my Bluetooth is the older 04 one which doesn't work with anything

once I turned my car on it was in pairing mode and I just put the PK: that was on the sticker by the part number and it works with my phone5s

I go to directory and all my contacts are there automaticaly

Consider yourself lucky...I haven't had any luck at all.

Does anyone know the process for clearing out the old paired phones using DIS (or whatever the right BMW software is)...

If you have the newer TCU module (10/94-up build date) and you DO NOT have a phone eject box with a pairing button...but you DO have the talking face button on the steering wheel that activates voice commands...try pushing the talking face button on the steering wheel for around 10 seconds...or if that doesn't work...just press the button and when you hear the BEEP...say "HELP".

The system should give you some voice commands...and may even help you get to how to delete any old BT phones from the system.

This is just a thought in the back of my head...and may or may not work.

I just read something interesting about the e53 X5 as to Bluetooth pairing. In the instructions below...in STEP 3, it mentions that the SEAT BELT needs to be fastened when you see ACTIVATE PHONE. I'm not sure if this is some simple step that is preventing some owners from pairing their phones or not...but it is a step listed here that may be crucial for those having difficulty and getting stopped when the MID or Nav displays ACTIVATE PHONE:

sooooo silly question, but since my beautiful X5 (04/05 build date) did not come with the BT module, can I just buy it, plug it in and have it working or are there more parts involved?

I just realized I'd need the factory mic too. I don't recall if I have that when I took the console down when removing roof liner. nuts.

I think your answer may be in this PDF. Look for info about e53s built between 3/2004 - 8/2004 : http://www.bmwmotorsports.org/pdf/bluetooth/841304.pdf

nuts.
my options show I have the Code S640A (preparation for telephone installation universal). I do not have code S639 (BMW assist).
I would need to get a few modules to get bluetooth working... and since I RARELY use the phone while driving anyhow, its not worth spending hundreds buying the modules to upgrade. Would have been a neat upgrade if I was only one cheap module away tho
As always, thank you QSilver7 for your help

Ok -- now we are on to something. I'm going to try this procedure this weekend and see what happens.

What's odd is that both modules have connected to both of my iPhones at one time (they are in the list of bluetooth connections on the phones). However, both now say "ACTIVATE PHONE", so this process seems like the likely fix.

Thanks for the research! My googling skills didn't come up with this at all... So I fired myself.

I'll try this too, but I think the other procedure has more likelihood of success.
