this happened to me the other night, I was able to get the door opened but then it wouldn't close lol when i finally got it closed I was stuck inside so I had to climb out the passenger side then I realized my passenger side door handle was broken... so I had to get in through the back seat. after about 30mins of driving I heard a click in the door and it worked fine

Someone suggested a preventative measure a while back; use a spray bottle to spritz a little antifreeze into the door cavity (through the plastic plug near the door handle) helps keep things from freezing up. I haven't tried it myself, but the people who did & responded in that thread seemed to be having some success with it.

Drivers side snapped 2 weeks ago. Relatively easy fix.
For those that have experienced this issue on the driver's side...use your unlock on key to put windows down and open from the inside. Worked like a charm for the couple of days prior to fixing. ![]() Funny story. Best friend has a nice garage. Drove out to his place about 45 minutes from my home to make the repair on the carrier. My doors auto lock once I begin driving. Anyway, get to his place and waited for him to open one of the garage doors. He didn't see that I was there. So, I jumped out of the X and without thinking...closed the driver's door...WHILE THE TRUCK WAS RUNNING!!!! Imagine my surprise when he opens the bay...and I can't get into the truck!!! Fortunately, lots of gas in the X so it keep running and a drive back home to get the spare key...allowed me to enter the vehicle and get on with making the repair. I've become so used to my Audi S4's Advanced Key...stays in my pocket...can't lock key in car or trunk. Can leave it running without any issues.

Broke a carrier last year, lubed all the rest of them after the first one broke. No problems out of the rest of them since, we've had down to 0 degree weather.

Man, I feel your pain. I had the same issue. I had mostly tightened the carrier and then tried to set the lock WITHOUT the exterior lock cover. The screw was hitting just enough on the side, that I couldn't get it to catch. Unfortunately, I didn't have any beer ...So, I loosened up the carrier and then put the cover on the lock...set it and dang if the screw didn't catch on the first attempt!!! Yes, all went well, except for that one part.
