how can a novice repair this

Hi all, had an error from my lights and noticed indicator on drivers side was blinking real fast, changed bulbs but no joy..

Then I noticed the wiring, one of the wires is a bit foobarred..

How would I fix this, I haven't soldered before, I have extended speaker wires etc with the plastic joint boxes

How do I repair it
Cheers

Easy Peasy.

Get a couple of crimp on wire connectors and splice in a couple inches of new wire.
I like the wire tap style... they're designed for adding a "Y" connection, but they make a nice positive connection. The butt splice ones are more difficult to get really solid. When you're done, carefully apply some liquid electrical tape to all the connections to keep them dry.

is it just me or is that a shielded wire?

those arent as simple to repair as just recrimping them if so.

In the case of shielded wire I would cut it and twist the wires together so the shielding butts together and use shrink on connectors to hold and insulate the connection. You can find shrink connections at Lowe's or Home Depot. They are tubes in various sizes that slide over the wires and with the heat from a hair dryer will shrink tight on the wires.

it is wire for his lights so negative on the shielding those solderless crimp connects are sketchy at best you might as well just twist n tape those wires together. Soldering is very easy and a great skill to learn.

Seriously, do it right or do it twice. Solder it.

If the wire is not broken or frayed just tape it with electrical tape.

I don't recommend solder in automotive applications unless you have NO space to do a crimp...

Solder get's weak due to the vibration.

Crimp it
