e53 - TV amplifer and aftermarket DVB tuner
I was having a couple of issues with my 2004 factory 16:9 headunit (analog TV but no nav) so I have changed it over to a new Android head unit. I purchased an extension power cable and extension Fakra antenna cable for the radio and that all works great. I have even got the factory reverse camera working with the unit. The question I have, does anyone know how the factory TV tuner works? I have bought a replacement Eonon DVB tuner and can get it to work with the antenna that come with it but want to use the factor antenna. Eonon V0018 | Car DVB-T | DVB-T HD Digital TV Receiver Box I bought some cable adapters so I can plug the original antenna cables that were plugged into the old analog tuner into the new DVB unit, but the signal is pretty much non existent. These antenna worked great with the old tuner, so I am thinking I need to energise a TV signal amp or something like this? I am thinking maybe when the factory TV tuner is selected, it switches a signal amp on, the same way the radio switches on the radio signal amp. Does anyone know how this works? Anyone got a non-factory TV tuner working with the factory antenna? Thanks, Dale |

Anyone have any idea how the TV antenna system works?
I see some people are selling these boosters, which I guess are in the system somewhere: BMW X5 E53 TV AMPLIFIER BOOSTER BOX MODULE 8377658 | eBay I assume if I have one of these and it isn't getting powered up it wont be passing any signal? |

Does anyone have any insight?
If all else fails I might be able to trace the two antenna cables that go to the oem analogue tuner and see where they go back to. This might not be possible as wires are very hard to trace when they go into a thick loom. All I really need to know is: 1. Is there a signal amplifier in between the oem antennas in the rear bumper and the tuner itself? 2. Where abouts is it located? 3. Does the oem tuner power this amplifier when it is selected as the source on the oem headunit? does this mean i can simply feed it with 12V off an ACC 12V line? Any info would be appreciated. |

Hey mate,
just having a browse around realoem.com It looks like if you have the smaller screen TV unit, there is an amplifier seperate to the unit (number 7 on diagram). As this is not shown in the diagram of the larger screen version, one could assume it's inbuilt. ![]() ![]() http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...07&hg=65&fg=30 There also appears to be additional amplifiers for the navigation located toward the rear of the car. This diagram also shows you the location of the antennas. Diversity antenna's are normally used for TV signal in aftermarket applications, so I'd assume any additional amplification would need to take place around there: ![]() I have an aftermarket DVB-T tuner with my Dynavin. I've got powered dual diversity antenna's located on opposite sides of the car. The whole thing barely works, I live in CBD Melbourne and I can pick up 1 or 2 channels. I could persist further with it but to be honest, the amount of times I've had a need for it is very little......
