Yes, n/c was covered under factory warranty. Mine is a 2012 and warranty expires in a month. I went to BMW of Bloomfield to get it done.

I got hit with this Parking Brake Malfunction virus today. I can still drive the car, but I get the warning every time I start the X5. there's an orange Park light ON. This all happened while using Auto Hold.

Any updates?

I think I'm going to spring for just the switch from turnermotorsports.com. It's about $58+. I hand my indie check for the codes and 2 came up. One for the switch itself and the other for a faulty actuator itself. He, however, says that it has been experience that the switch alone is faulty and replacing it might be enough to fix it. That's why I'll be buying it this week and will replace it myself. I'll post an update.

Was there any update on this?

I had the same issue come up - I manually released and was able to drive away (was 200+ miles from home...)

However the Orange Light pops up when starting the car.

I tried to reset the light (start car, press break peddle hard, activate parking break - parking break did activate at this time but would not deactivate and had to manually release again).

I have a 2011 with 80k miles and it is out of warranty (and also tuned so don't want to bring to dealer).

Thanks for any help.

How do you manually release it if the brake is on?
