Just circling back - was able to clear the parking brake code for about a month. Then it would come back - clear it - go away for a month. The parking brake would engage and disengage a number of time before the code would pop back up.

Decided to try and just change the switch (EMF switch in console) to see if that would fix it - no such luck... Looks like I might have to change the full brake at some point... Lame considering I had used the parking break 1 time... and it broke!

One last follow-up - I ordered an actuator off of ebay for about $285 - followed the various videos / pdf instructions to install. Took about 2.5 hours and did not require the module to be coded NCS Expert.

When screwing the drivers side bolt in only go about 2-3 turns and then do the passenger side clip. This gives you enough room to move the guts of the actuator around.

Also, if you tie a rope around the manual release cord, you can just pull the new one up from the trunk. (see red handle - cord tied to that)

This issue just happened to me. Pulled the brake to release it manually and cleared the codes. I get the big orange (P) and an orange brake light but the parking brake works fine. The orange brake light turns to red when it's activated. I'm going to clear everything tonight and see if it fixes.

HOW TO TURN OFF THE ANNOYING PARKING BRAKE MALFUNCTION INDICATOR???

Hi there. Didn't want to start a new thread on this so I'm posting if anyone can share how to DEACTIVATE the annoying parking brake malfunction error that pops up on the screen every time you turn the car on.

I've gone through buying a $200 refurbished actuator on ebay but it did not work. Unfortunately it took several months before I got this installed so I'm sure the ebay seller won't give me a refund anymore.

I'm already sick and tired of this error message and found out that I can live without the parking brake function anyway (at least until another solution presents itself). I just want to get rid of the annoying error message. DO you guys know how to disable this? I already know that my parking brake actuator is busted and I don't need to get reminded every time I use the X. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Replacing mine using ebay part work for me - not sure if you can code it out but this is the guy who could tell you - I've used him to code out adaptive headlights and a few other things - [email protected] - Joe

You forgot the MOST annoying part! I haven’t been able to see the clock time since getting this error over a year ago!

i know this is a bit late, but if you want to stop communication with the entire EMF module you can enable workshop mode in ISTA+ /rheingold, goto, vehicle (something, its second tab from left), service functions, chassis and suspension, parking brake, workshop mode and run the program

I have the parking brake issue as well, very new to the E70 So when I applied the brake and it became stuck on I legitimately thought I was stuck until I found a YouTube video showing the emergency release. I constantly have the orange P sign and a constant fault code stored 006031 EMF Emergency Release Detected. Even after ISTA+ fault clearence it still remains, what's the reason for that?.. Like I get it if the actuator was stuck but why a permanent emergency release code. My plan was to remove the module and check the bowden cables and power cables to the actuator motor, I absolutely hate the fact that it's the transmission in Park stopping it from rolling at the moment.
