X5 E70 water in boot

Hi All, I have water in my X5 E70 boot in the same area as the battery! As the battery is mounted higher, the water is not in direct contact with the battery. The water seem to be held below the car somewhere and when I drive the car (I assume when I accelerate) it pushes the water towards the back of the car and up and through the gaps and holes in the boot. Any insights where the water might have come from? I have seen posts elsewhere saying this could be tailgate seal (doesn't look like it to me in my case) or drain being blocked (I don't know how to locate the drain). Any insights will be very helpful. Thanks.

Sunroof leaks are a known issue. Make sure all of the drains are clear.

My X5 doesn't have a sun roof so I have ruled that out as the culprit for now. Will check the tailgate seals again. The side compartments on either side of the back, that house the tail lights and other electrics seem dry. Water seem to be coming up from the middle of the back.

They are available in the US if you order your SAV without a sunroof.

Well it was standard on every model EXCEPT the base 35. An if you ordered the "Convenience package" to that base, the moonroof was added. There was no moon/sunroof delete option. All diesels had it as standard.

This from the 2012 Order Guide. I didnt look up other years, nor look at the V8s.

Ive never seen one without a sunroof...or moonroof as they call it. I wonder how many there are?
