That's good to hear I guess they go bad on 335's a lot more often.

Daytonaturbo's balancer failed around 120,000 on his x5

I have a 2010 X5 diesel as well with a code thrown for the passenger airbag sensor a month after replacing the airbag. How much was the cost for the sensor+labor? Thanks!

My harmonic balancer with 110k was good but has some small cracks. I replaced it to prevent being stranded. I keep the old one as a spare now.

Wow, you have more mileage than I do!
I'm at 136,000 miles. Agreed, this beast is an amazing vehicle.

Love it for towing, gas mileage, comfort and especially winter driving!

Before it went off the extended warranty I had the control arms changed, ball joints, the driveshaft and the AC.

Recently my right front coil spring snapped, so I replaced both coils (not at the dealership).

The passenger sensor is "off" but I'm not changing it, I'm getting the bypass thingie. You probably know that BMW recalled a ton of these in prior models and it's shameful they won't recall these as well.

I'm also getting the DPF sensor flashing at me. I'll be getting a PF cleaner and doing that myself as well, as a new filter is thousands of dollars.

Most of my driving is highway, so I'm hoping my truck lasts a few more years without major catastrophe! (don't use your sunroof btw...apparently there's a part there that'll break and is virtually not replaceable!!).

In the last year (some in the last week) I have replaced the following:
Footwell module
Throttle Body
Turbo oil lines
Fuel pressure and temperature sensor
Glow plug module
Passenger airbag seat sensor
Headlights
One taillight
Getting ready to do the front and rear brakes and new tires.
I know it also needs new front strut bearings (and probably struts also)

So the question is, Is this thing about had everything fixed or am I in for another year of massive repairs? How much life on transmission, etc.

I'm trying to decide if it's time to move on and fork out the 70k for a new one, or if I'm pretty much done with major repairs I can just keep up with minor maintenance and repairs.

Thanks for your opinions.

Replaced the harmonic balancer a year ago or so. The rubber inside it simply disintegrated. Got an aftermarket item as the OEM is pricey.

The problem is holding the main shaft while trying to undo the bolts.

I just jacked up a piece of wood onto the flywheel to hold it, where the inspection hole is to hold the engine from turning while undoing and doing the bolts for the HB

Update: I got a Creator 110+ v 5.2 OBD reader and it's my thermostat. So a friend who is a diesel mechanic is going to replace that and the water pump for me this Wednesday. Once that is changed and the engine/coolant temp is back to 88C I'll be able to force a regeneration and the DPF issue should go away!
