Brother, anytime you mess with exhaust bolts, there is a risk of them breaking. You can mitigate that risk by soaking them in WD-40 or PB Blaster for a few minutes.

I would recommend if possible, doing this with these bolts at warm temperature (not full hot operating temp, and not cold). That along with a good penetrating lube will usually do the trick for a trouble-free removal.

You definitely dont want to break them or strip them. Use a high quality bit and make sure that you are straight on and all in. If it is possible to have the manifold just warm that could help, but dont go sticking your mapp torch down there...

I definitely seen a post/thread about that EGR cooler bolt breaking. So, be careful.

If this help change your mind but remove the electric fan gives you all kind of room to work.
Use good tool and the correct size of socket ( six sides NOT 12 sides socket help remove hard bolts and nuts)

I just replaced the thermostat and the job wasn't too bad.
