				2013 35D - Stage 2 Checklist...

Guys - my wife loves her E70 (2013 35D, Alpine on Cinnamon/ Sport Activity etc) and plans to keep it a long time - it will be paid off in a few months, and thankfully our great state in the free South doesn't have diesel emissions, so I'm planning on doing the Stage 2 conversion for her - **FULL DISCLAIMER** I am getting too old to spend days wrenching on these cars, cleaning the air filter, some basic preventative maintenance, monthly detailing of the interior/exterior, oil changes, and maybe some other items are the extent of my DIY on the E70. I do NOT have the time to go back and forth with tuners that are not local, nor having issues and having to do troubleshooting with them. Thankfully, 20 mins from my house, is Bimmer Performance Center (BPC) in Raleigh, nice guys, have done some non-planned work on my E53 in the past and I brought the most recent fuel filter service for the E70 as well, it was fair and done right. Since their downpipe/delete pipe does not include a Diesel catalyst which is a MUST for my wifes car due to the smell, they told me they are more than willing to do the install and conversion if I bring my own deletes, they can provide the rest of what I would need. This brings me to Rawtek, or ATM, or BuzzKen/AARodriguez, which have options for a DOC - I'm leaning to Rawtek or ATM because they are the most affordable options. So please feel free to check in with me on the items I should be looking to do around or at time of conversion (I.E. preventative maintenance items), the vehicle should have 75-80k miles - I do plan on doing a transmission service with filter/ZF fluid change around the similar time. 1) Tune - BPC Stage 2 (not the + as it smokes a bit more) 2) DPF/SCR/EGR Delete - flushed tanks with distilled water (Rawtek, ATM because of the DOC option) 3) Swirl Flaps Delete (BPC can provide) 4) EGR Race Pipe or Blockoff? (I am not running meth but is there any advantage on doing this? Or will blocking off work as intended) Items I am considering adding to the conversion time: 5) Carbon cleaning? BPC told me while everything is open its a good idea to do, and then will not need it afterwards once the deletes are done 5) Thermostat/Coolant Change? 6) Intercooler Upgrade / Boost Hoses (ATM has just come out with their intercooler kit which I believe in on a stock tuned vehicle, at $800 including the ASV hose, it will delete all the quick connects which can fail and improves 90%+ of core size compared to stock) Anything else you guys can think of let me know - I'd like to cover most of my bases and hopefully have a minimal amount of maintenance going forward after the conversion, so if there is anything "while I'm in there" I would want to add it - Thanks!

Stay far away from BPC. Their tunes block out codes and have never read anything good about them. Have AARod delete and tune your car. Andrew is very knowledgeable and will take care of you. I have a DOC and I still smell diesel fumes. DOC will no eliminate them but will help cutting down compared to a downpipes with a DOC What temp does your thermostat get to? Should be above 88c Install Andrew's race pipe and remove the EGR. It will eventually leak coolant so get it out of the way ATM intercooler is very nice. I can't justify spending close to 1k CAD after the exchange rate. Install requires dropping the bumper.

I may have to visit AARod as he's in Georgia now I believe - I will do more research on BPC's tunes, its very advantageous to have the support locally to me but I will do research before I pull the trigger - Yes I know there are still fumes, but if its cut down 80% compared to no DOC, on the wifes car, you better believe I need it lol. Will check my Tstat, when I emailed Andrew Rodriguez last year he did recommend doing Tstat as well as coolant change preventatively - Thank you for the tip on the race pipe - I would rather remove completely. And yes the CAD exchange rate is no bueno on the ATM but I believe a tuned diesel will definitely benefit from it. Worth the cost IMO.

The 7 hour road trip is worth it. Trust me! You don't want to be like the guy who went on a road trip to Canada with his bpc tuned 335d which left him stranded. His car wouldn't start. 80% is a stretch. More like 50% on a good day Once the EGR is deleted changing the thermostat will be much easier. You'd be shocked at how much room the EGR takes up. Biggest advantage with the ATM's intercooler is that it eliminates boost leaks because they don't use the crappy oem connections

Thanks for all the help so far! I'm thinking ASV Elbow/Intercooler from ATM ($120 plus $700) ATM Exhaust or Rawtek exhaust (differences noted above, about $150 difference) EGR Race Pipe ($150-200) Swirl Flaps Delete ($50) Tune ($1000 give or take) Any other parts I'm missing, besides the labor for the tune and deletes? I probably will feel good enough about it to do the intercooler install myself, I did one on my Volkswagen GLI years ago. The rest I'll have done because I don't have the time anymore.

I have no horse in this race. When I did the deletes back in May I did about 20 hours of research over the 5 months. In fact I know a local 335d who had a BPC and it almost ruined his car. I dont have links on hand but go research the Facebook group or e90post. You may not have months to get this done. In the US the EPA is going after all businesses who offer "race tunes". Dieselops just got shutdown 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't delete the ASV. Doesn't that protect against run away engines? Why do you want an exhaust? It's loud enough after the delete Here's a cold startup with my X5d https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FCI7GiCqzOU

Thanks for the video! And I am not worried about the 2 shops we mention shutting down - I just browsed Dieselops and they look to have an active website, but they are not chock full of the legal disclaimers like AA/BPC - Plus again I live in a state that does not have emissions for diesel operated vehicles because many are farm/off road use If for some reason every tuner gets shut down between now and then I am not in a rush to throw away 4k - Shoot I spent 10 hours researching upgraded speakers on my E53 you can imagine I'll be spending months researching before spending a dime.

Sunny, if you could offer a link or some insight on the phone cradle delete I'd appreciate it. I already have the Buzzken exhaust, the swirl flap and EGR delete hardware, just waiting to scrounge together $1000 for the tune AA Rod. Sent from my SM-N920V using Tapatalk |
