Tapered 18" rims for e70

I have the 19" tapered wheels setup for the e70 3.0si. I want to replace with 18" tapered, but I can't seem to find them anywhere. Any pointers? I just need fatter rubber for more comfort as my e70 is the sports susoension.

'tapered'? you mean staggered ? I just went through similar trying to find wider tires for wife's 50i but same 18" rims. I just played around on the tire size calculator until i found some that are similar rolling circumference but wider.

what is your current setup front/rear? I am planning to put on 275/55/18 square setup; that is about 2-3% larger tire but that will just make the speedo read correctly vs. low at about 70 mph.

Hi @andrewwynn yes I meant staggered.

Currently I have:
Front: 255/50R19
Rear: 285/45R19

Can't seem to get a staggered setup in 18"; perhaps I'm looking in wrong places..

It will be tricky because when BMW went to staggered they only did with larger rims. By playing around with tire size calculator you can find a staggered setup with similar rolling circumference but the trick then will be finding the actual tires.

Ah yes. Let me start working out what the calculator can figure out. Perhaps I may just skip the staggered setup altogether and make them uniform same size 18" wheels. Hopefully this can work out especially for the rear.

Tapered 18" rims for e70

I'm very happy with the standard "big" wheels on my 3.0i e53 that are 255/55/18. (square).

Wifes e70 with 50i and 450 ft·lb. Uses the same right now and it's nice for comfort not so good for tire wear.

https://tiresize.com/calculator/

I'm planning to get 275/55/18

(Square).

3.1% bigger so 72*1.031=74.232 means at 75 on dash actually going 74.2 vs. 72 bringing speedometer closer to reality.

Also 9% more sidewall for more cushion.

Same size might work very well for you. Exactly same circumference so no change in speedo buy 9.1% bump in sidewall

Generally speaking a higher profile tire will deliver a softer ride but there are tall sidewall tires that are also stiffer then shorter sidewalls so they may ride pretty much the same. Key with tires is to buy tires that have more flexible sidewalls if you want a better ride. Performance will be compromised with taller tires as it changes the effective gear ratio. Performance and handling are negatively impacted if the weight of the tire on the rim increases because it increases unsprung weight. It doesn't take much increase in unsprung weight to noticeably decrease acceleration and cornering capability. A softer tread rating can help ride but that usually means tires will wear faster. I wouldn't consider a non staggered setup if that is what came on the vehicle. It was fitted that way for a reason and one can only guess how to have non staggered tires to that perform as designed. Wider tires generally go on wider rims. IMO putting on tires wider than recommended for the rim is never a good idea.

If you only want to improve ride via tires then I would find a taller tire with a more flexible sidewall with a soft tire compound that weighs extremely close to the existing tires. Cornering might be negatively impacted somewhat but that doesn't seem to be your priority. That said, my solution would be to change to softer shocks and struts rather than mess with sidewall height or tire size.

Well, I want to improve ride quality. Through any means possible.

I have failed to find a taller tyre for the rear. It's 285/45R19. I have looked for 50, 55 but no luck. What possible tyre sizes with a taller profile can fit that wide rim?

My tyres are pretty much needing replacement so I prefer to go the tyre route for obvious reasons.

Tapered 18" rims for e70

This size would likely work as a square setup. And keep the same rims.

Two options for staggered setup.

I didn't check for size availability but the circumference is amazingly similar. Added points for keeping existing wheels.
