Clicking sound from the rear end

I have a 2007 e70 4.8 and I seem to be having a clicking sound coming from the rear end. Sometimes it doesn’t make the sound if it’s warm/hot outside.
I originally thought that the sound was coming from the rear right wheel bearing but I’m not quite sure that’s the source. Not really sure what to do to confirm where this is coming from.
It seems like it’s louder when the car is coasting but it also does it when accelerating but it’s not as loud. The faster you go the more you hear it.
I replaced the rear right wheel bearing approx 2 years ago.
I’m just wondering what would I need to do to confirm where the sound is coming from. I don’t want to throw parts at it hoping that would solve it.
So far it’s either:
- Wheel bearing
- axle cv shaft
- differential

As a precaution I changed out the oil in the diff but no change. Any suggestions would be appropriated. TIA
Edit.
One thing I forgot to mention. My tires are getting a little worn and only on the rear right tire it has uneven camber wear. Not sure if that would narrow it down but worth to mention.

Not much help on the noise....

On the tire wear, dont assume it is ONLY the camber. Too much toe will accentuate the camber wear. Set the toe to minimum, and balance toe and camber side to side to fix that wear issue.

Put vehicle on jack stands or take to shop with lift. Make damn sure its well supported if you do this yourself. Use automotive stethoscope and listen to diff and outer hubs while someone is powering the X up from driver's seat. I suspected outboard hub bearings on a 2000 Mustang and was wrong. It was bearings within diff. Not saying this is case for you. Showing you a technique. If its CVs clicking you will have to decipher this while underneath. You can't touch those obviously while they're rotating.

I bought my stethoscope from autozone for $15 if i remember right. Good luck.

Hi Guys,

Same thing here, right rear is almost bald within 7000 kms, more wear on the outside.Clicking noise is driving me nuts.Sometimes it disappears for a week or so and then reappears.

Did OP solve this problem?

Yes i know this is an old post but its almost my exact problem, so its silly to start a new thread, unless i should anyways?

I have a very loud clicking in the left rear happening until 40-45mph. It also does it while in reverse going in a circle.

The good times started a few days ago, coincidentally with the cold and freezing at nights. It clicked for a night of driving, didn't the next day, but then started again immediately today. It still clicks after the vehicle is warm.

I just had it aligned 500 miles ago because the same tire that is presently clicking, also wore the inner edge all the way down to cords. It was also cupped in the center even though I kept the tires overfilled at around 47psi. Also about 1000 miles ago I changed all the TC, trans, front and rear diff with all the proper fluids. No grease spots from any leaking around boot. Alignment did get camber where it belongs. 1.6-7 i think.

So my non mechanic mind is telling me to replace the cv joint or shaft... But if anyone more smarter than me that might have any advice or comments on this situation, I would love to hear it. Thanks so much!

The dealer diagnosed it as a bad diff.
I didn’t believe them so I went with my gut feeling and changed the wheel bearing. Sound is gone and everything was good
