Phantom Service Light
So I go to the vehicle info menu and it also shows that a service is due but the info is blank... When I click on the service for more info it's also blank... For the record, mine is an x35i, 3.0L 6 cylinder turbo. When I go to the maintenance menu to try to reset the light, this is the service that it says is due... And when I try to reset it, nothing happens. The "OK" indicator comes up, but when I cycle the odo button to reset, nothing... Any thoughts? I was hoping someone with more knowledge than me, which is just about everyone, would be able to provide some assistance. Thanks in advance |

1. I rarely pay attention to the display warnings. I just pull codes with a BMW scanner.
2. You probably have a code 452A which is a warning that BMW technicians are eagerly waiting to bend you over for $4500 to change the DPF filter. It deosnt means it NEEDS to be changed, rather it has reached a mileage that BMW has calculated their dealers need the income. 3. 15x,000 miles? 4. Buy a bmw code reader, foxwell or such. 100-150. Even if you never do the work and are clueless....it will help not getting screwed. How? You will then have a clue. |

452A - DPF nearing end of design rated service life, prepare for DPF replacement, comes in around 125,000 miles (exactly 200,000km), stored DTC, no CEL
4D4A - DPF nearing end of design rated service life, schedule DPF replacement, comes in around 155,000 miles (exactly 250,000km), stored DTC, no CEL, notification chime and DPF legend icon in OBC instrument display: and service advisory message: appears after 10 minutes of engine operation. The advisory message can be dismissed: but an exclamation symbol remains in the OBC instrument display: Look in the 'Check Control' section.

Thanks for the replies!
I should have put this in my original post; I do have a code reader and I'm not getting any codes at all, it's just what I'm seeing on the instrument cluster/screen. Also, I've seen a bunch about codes 452A and 4D4A popping up on diesel, but I have a 35i and can't find anything about a diesel light popping up on gas motor, is that really a thing? I'm at 109,XXX miles right now. |

When you look in Check Control, what's there? And no, a 35i doesn't have a DPF. That's why it's important to provide basic information in your original post such as, year, make, model, engine, mileage, etc. . . . when asking for assistance.

Check Control says that all systems are ok. And, I actually did say that it was an x35i, right above my fourth picture... "For the record, mine is an x35i..." The info was written, you just didn't read it.

Mine has a phantom service light that arrived after the car went in late for a BMW recall in 2020. I didn't notice it at the time, and soon after moved out the area so it's difficult to go back and argue the toss...
