awr-fix: Aspherical Mirrors
![]() ![]() I had these on my E53 and now after 30+ months of wanting and weeks of searching and after first buying fakes on Amazon i finally got them. Zoom in to compare! The outer edge curves into a tighter cylindrical radius to become a combined blind spot mirror. With these there is no blind spot! As a car passes you on the left you see his hood come past your door before disappearing from the mirror. Do not be fooled by fakes on eBay or Amazon. Nobody sells the aspheric mirrors in the western hemisphere. The fakes on Amazon and eBay are simple convex mirrors with Aspherical plastic stamped on the back and a pointless line near the edge where blinds blinds spot happens. I found a pair in Latvia for under $200 (they are ≈ $500@ from the dealer). Cost over $120 s&h with $44 of that on import duty. Worth every penny and I'll be ordering some for wife's 535 asap. –awr– Using Tapatalk VIP on iPhone

Yeah some years back I too was burning to get them...mine came from Great Britain if I remember correctly. Seemed like a good idea i purchased both passenger and driver mirrors once installed I'd like to think they made a difference...maybe so but I've become most fond of the tilt or dripping feature especially when you loose it for a while.

I'm really old school, and i remember driving my '56 Chevy (1st car) that had no outside rear-view mirrors, at all! So, though the tilt/dipping feature on my X5 might not be the latest/greatest thing in mirrors, it's still amazing (and useful) to me. To my thinking (sometimes stuck in the last century), it's really space-age.

When i showed my new mirrors to my best friend who's 82 my mirrors he recalled that his first couple car purchases had the *optional* passenger side mirror.
On the e53 the mirror dip was so excessive it pointed at what you just drove over rather than the back of the car where you were about to run into! (On my e53, i programmed the third seat/mirror memory to point both motors down towards the back of the car. The e70 aim is close to what i did but i don't use mirror dip or auto mirror fold I've witnessed enough mirror motor failurei don't play that game. I have backup and "top view" cameras so mirrors just for confirmation. –awr– Using Tapatalk VIP on iPhone
