Trailer tow camera feature

So, reading through various BMW press releases, I see that the rear view camera has a zoom mode. Apparently it zooms in on the trailer hitch ball for easier hitching. Very cool. Wonder if it displays a warning on the video screen if you have a non-OEM hitch?

Does anybody know how to engage this feature? I just had the hitch installed and programed but I can't find any trailer specific options or the Zoom feature. Did my dealership not perform the coding?

trailer tow camera

put the car in reverse so the camera is on. press the idrive knob down and the options for the camera will appear on the screen. there will be one for trailer hitch near the bottom. if it's not there, the dealer did not program it properly.

It even projects a green line on the screen so you can line right up to the tongue without even trying hard. Great feature.

Should this extra zoom option be available at all times or ONLY when connecting the trailer?(which for me is not that useful, since I need the zoom mode when backing up and approaching the trailer)

I found this infor here: BMW ConnectedDrive: Rear View Camera

It clearly shows a hitch symbol as the last option in the vertical menu on the left of the screen. When I connected the trailer what I found is the same symbol, only much bigger somewhere on the right hand side of the screen, It's not clickable though. BTW, I had an Execuhitch installed, I'm really happy with the way it looks on my car, no cutouts, very clean, I haven't towed yet.

I found out that the 2010 X5 doesn't have the zoom feature, for some reason. I went in after the hitch install to tell them that the zoom feature wasn't there, and was told that this feature was not in the software for the 2010s. Not sure why. Now if I could just get a volume shut-off for the distance sensor when in reverse, that would be great.

The PDC sensor is inactivated when connecting the trailer, and a hitch symbol shows up on the screen in camera mode. My car is being re-coded today and I will report back here if the zoom mode showed up. (2012 Diesel)

Unfortunately even after recoding (shop used Autologic software) they could not find the camera zoom option. Still looking for a solution
