running board problem

just noticed on the passenger side running board that a number of the little rubber tips aren't fixed in place--you can push them down into the opening. is there an easy way to get to the underside to lock them in place or is this a "back to the dealer" fix?
thanks

Unhappy

I have the same problem. Within few days, lot of rubber tips on my running boards were depressed.
The first picture is what it was before. The second picture highlights the ones that are depressed. The third picture shows the rear side of the aluminum piece, where you can easily see that the rubber tips are out of place.

Does anyone know of a solution to this problem? I guess everyone who has running boards and have people who actually step on them, would have a similar issue. I don't want to take my car to the dealer every time this happens and I know this would happen frequently since these rubber tips are delicate and do not hold themselves in place very well.

OK. Been there, done that...3 times!

Had the dealer install them, checked that very issue before I took the vehicle home, they said it would be replaced. Try #2, problem was still there, claimed they were bad as well. On the third time, fixed, and shy of jumping on them, it seems to be a lot better. It requires a lot of finger pressure to even press them in a little.

Unfortunately, I do not know if it was a part problem or an install problem

Looks like they need some more packing in there to keep them from doing this.. or else the aluminium is lifting.. I don't step on mine...

the aluminum is definitely not lifting...i guess there is some gap between the rubber and the underlying plastic cover, due to which this happens.
I guess I'll have to make sure that no one steps on them while entering or exiting the car. But then...the very purpose of having a *running board* is defeated

I installed my RB's myself, there is a styrofoam plate used as backing in between the base support and the rubber studs if it is not centered right it will fail to keep the rubber stud in the holes and will remain depressed when stepped on. The Aluminum plate does not lift because screws hold it in place. I just made sure the styrofoam plate is centered and catches all the rubber before tighthening everything. No issues with my RBs and I am more confident with my install than the dealers.

styrofoam plate? Even I installed the running boards in my car myself, but never got any styrofoam plates with the running board kit.

Do you think it is part number (2) mentioned here : RealOEM.com BMW E70 X5 3.0si Cover wheel arch / footboard

If you can confirm me, I can order it before re-installing my running board next week.

YES, those are the 2 styrofoam insert pieces you connect together. Keeps the rubber from being depressed down.
