I am sure this has been asked but

Is there a definitive way of checking what software is installed when you collect the vehicle for the first time?

Also is this software only for the X5 or other models as well in other words should the dealer have at the UK launch? Or will we have to wait?

This update is for the newer hardware available in several models.

The only way to know what version you have is to ask the installer.

Thanks, so when you say installer I assume you mean the factory if so do they tell the dealer on the vehicle info that they have on thier system or can the dealer tell through the diagnostics system?

Do you know which models?

other than the headaches and lost time associated with taking the car in multiple times, and correcting the new problems created the various versions of the software, no - it's covered under warranty as mentioned in the Service Bulletin posted earlier in this thread

My dealer was about to do the upgrade to the 25.x software but the shop foreman informed me that they would not do the software ver 25.x currently as it has killed a few cars and they are still in the shop awaiting for more info from BMW NA. They said to wait a few more weeks until they know more unless absolutely necessary.

They said they will keep me advised....

Basically your call. I would ask your dealer what experience thay have had with the current upgrade. I know it killed a few x5s and X3's. I decided to error on the side of caution as I want to search for POIs but have no other issues.

Let us all know what you find out.

Got the new software upgrade today. Will update on speed of system after driving a few days. The new gray/silver appearance is nice. The differences appear to be in the nav system with another way to access information like restaurants and other POIs. The CD/Entertainment views are a little different and across the CD tab, there is also now a DVD selection that is greyed out on my system. Not sure what this is for. The DVD from the rear entertainment system still is accessed from the AUX/Rear tab. Tried putting a DVD in the NAV DVD slot, the regular CD in dash slot and the 6 disc changer but that did not make the DVD tab active. I will play with it more tomorrow. My dealer said the install went well and it did retain my settings. Makes no improvements to the rear view camera. It still sucks but seems to turn off a little more quickly than before. Still not fast enough. Does not fix the steering wheel memory issue (I am hoping someone else gets that one figured out). Map appearance is a little different and the turn arrows seem to come up more frequently.

hey guys,

regarding the rear view camera.. i'm coming to think that bmw purposely left the rear view camera on for a while longer even after u engage in Drive..

my reason being that u can actually turn the thing off faster if it bothers u by manually pressing on the PDC button (left of the DTC button) when in Drive and it will turn off right away.

hope this helps some of u
