IMO, what you are missing here is the pain-and-anguish of having your new toy not work, over and over, and having to go back to the dealer to get the software updated.

In the end, as you point out, they will both work.

I am just thankful to all the '07 guys and gals for having worked the bugs out with BMW for my '08!

But seriously, I am sure there will be some bugs that will get identified in '08 and resolved for '09 - it's just the way it goes. Personally I would never, ever, buy a first year model of anything.

Cheers,
Keith

on the software updates.... yes they can do them...but they are usually reluctant to do so... thing takes hours to perform... and they're always backed up...

doesn't hurt to ask around the next time you visit the dealer on any known issues or info on any design changes for 08.. (try to make friends with some of the mechanics there...)

i do..

My dealer has automatically updated the software to the latest version everytime I have taken it in for anything. Maybe some dealers are not as cordial as others? If you have one of those dealers, what makes you think they will be more willing to update the 08's when the inevitable software/firmware upgrades are released? The problem with asking the technicians at the dealer is that their opinions can be biased in either direction. Ask one who has just worked for 2 days to locate a rattle on a 5 series what he thinks of them. I bet his opinion is different than it was last week!

Unless you are someone that just HAS to be the one that puts the first few miles on your car, you may want to consider looking for a used 07. I found my 07 4.8 at a MB dealership. Someone had traded it in on a GL because of the issue with the rear entertainment (ie DVD doesn't pause and restart at current location after ignition turned off, too hard for the little ones to operate, etc). I don't have children and couldn't care less about how the rear DVD works, it will probably never be turned on. Same with the 3rd row seat - it will probably never see the light of day. The car had 3k miles, every available option except for Head Up, and I only paid 64k. I have put over 3500 miles on it so far, have had not one issue - so far I absolutey LOVE this car and the fact that I saved the big bucks just by letting someone else put the first few miles on it just makes it that much better!

Just ordered a '08 and got $5000 under MSRP so your offer isn't a good deal. That's on top of the $900 difference with the sunroof now being standard!

I beg to differ...considering the msrp on my car was 77,2k, even taking off the 6k you say you got off on your 08, 64k was still a VERY good deal!

I did a little bit of investigation of MSRP vs. Invoice prices for a fairly well loaded 2008 4.8i. The difference between MSRP was just over $6,000. So if someone got $5,000 off of MSRP, they got a VERY good deal!

He's a new member (his first post) and it's likely he is full of it. I seriously doubt they are going to discount a new 08 $5K off MSRP. Remember ,12 year olds know how to register for a forum too

Zee... I wasn't talking about your deal. 64K for a '07 with 3500 miles is pretty good. I was talking to the original poster who was offered 2500 off MSRP for a new 07.

And Shumdit...first off...I am far from 12-years-old. I really don't think too many 12-years-olds are trolling a BMW X5 message board. I doubt a 12-year-old even knows what an MSRP is. Yes, it might have been my first post but so what.

I ordered an '08 a week and a half ago. $73,500 MSRP and I got it for $68,550. Forgive my 12-year-old math, but that comes out to pretty close to $5,000. Dealer gave me 2% over invoice.

As the king of my own small country I get a new BMW of my choice weekly flown in from Germany. Look how easy it is for anyone to claim anything online. Since many members here have networked to get the best deal and none of them have come close to your price, I think you are full of crap. My opinion? Yes. Worthless to anyone but me? Sure. Still, Unless you are trading in something or leasing (both of which leave the dealer with the abilty to bend the numbers to give you $5K off on paper, I am not going to give your claim much credit. Gotta go now, Elvis just arrived for our weekly poker game ( back at ya)
