I think I recieved one of the first MY2008 X5 (October build) for Canada.
In regards to the armrest, I have to convince myself that is probably a design change for cup stability. I prefer the looks of the earlier design. I also think that it is different because of the third row seat option.
I also mention earlier about the soft closing doors.
They are so neat.

Here is the link to dealerfit.com describing the wheel style 209 that I like for winter setup with michelin run flats.

Hi NYND,
I glad you noticed the missing sport button.
I was actually looking for that as part of the sport package but before running to the dealer I verified with the brochure.
I think that the sport button is for the adaptive drive option.
Can anyone verify/confirm this?
Sport package with vehicle include:
-suspension should be sport ready to accept 20s not mode changable
-Black pillars and roofliner
-gloss black shadowline trim
-Sport seats
-Sport steering wheel (dont know the difference )

Yes, In Canada in order to get the "sport" button you have to order the Sport Package and the Adaptive Drive.

Has anyone gone over the boarder yet to purchase? I can not believe the price differences with the current exchange rate.

I also see that BMW Canada has address this on their website but are showing some misinformation by implying there is a 6.1% duty, which there is not. Also I can not contact BMW Canada to ask them about this through there web site. For some reason it is not working.

All the info for importing requirements from the US can be found at:

It can be done with a some effort, but you will find that BMW has put a lot of roadblocks to try to prevent importing into Canada. For example BMW will not release Original title unless you have an American Address and you have to find a Dealer willing to sell to you. If you use a broker it would be easier, they do all the work and charge a fee. I had one import another high priced car and charged me $500.00 for the importation.

I priced a fully loaded 4.8 and the price difference is well over $20K. I think it would be worth the effort. I am also hearing about brokers opening up all over, that will purchase the car with an American affiliate and then resell to you for a fee of about $2,500 including delivery. I have not further investigated the brokers yet, but it seams like a worthwhile fee to me.

I hope more Canadians push back to BMW Canada for fairer pricing. I really think we are getting screwed by BMW Canada.
