Something interesting happened in tracking our car. From my past experience with the OC tracking I know that it is behind the real current status. It was waaaay behind with my 545 three years ago as it still said the car was at the VDC three weeks after I had already picked the car up. Well, last Friday (9 days after ordering the car) the OC tracking said "In Production". The phone tracking said "In paint shop"....yet it had the estimated completion date that same day, implying that the car is painted and goes through the entire assembly the same day (Friday). Then I had my dealer do a check on his inquiry system and it said that the car was already done and had gone through QA.

Today I checked the OC tracking just for the heck of it fully expecting for it to be lagging again by at least a few days only to find out that it had skipped "Awaiting Transport" and "En Route" and gone straight to "At Preparation Center". I knew that was pretty much impossible so I checked with the phone tracking and it says that the car is awaiting transport to the exit port. So for some weird reason the OC tracking which is pretty much always lagging behind (sometimes by weeks), has now skipped ahead by at least a week or two.

It seems that my car is going backwards. OC tracking said that it was "At the preparation Center" on Sunday (2 days after the end of production and after skipping "Awaiting Transport" and "En Route" altogether), and now it has gone back to "En Route" .........OC tracking is a joke.

But seriously, according to the dealer the car left the port of exit on a train on Monday and is expected to arrive at the Oxnard VDC/VPC on Christmas Day (12/25). There is a SLIGHT chance that we'll get it by New Years, but I'm not gonna hold my breath.

Something that was on my mind.
What if something happens to the car like a scratch or in Quality Assurance they find something not perfect or see some of the bugs some people reported on delivery, would they send the car back to fix those minor issues?
When I got my X, I noticed a little bit of residue (barely any) from buffing or polishing under one side of the hood, I am wondering if they had to do it at some point to correct something on the paint.
In any case, could any of that delay the delivery for a day or two?

What if they find something more serious like with the frame or water leaking in, etc.. do they attempt to fix right there or build another car for customer and work on the defective one little later?

OK, in any case I had my car in NY about a week after it was built, so keep your hopes up, it will be here in no time.

I've been on the Oxnard VDC (VPC) tour twice and they do indeed have a full body shop, as well as a mechanic shop to deal with any damage or problems with the car. When the cars first arrive the first step they go through is a special car wash to clean the Cosmoline protective wax off of the surface of the car. Actually all models BUT the X5 go through this step.....the X5 doesn't have to because they wrap it in protective plastic at the factory instead of spraying it with Cosmoline (see pic). Next they install the latest Progman/CIP software (in cases where there is a newer version than what was installed at the factory). Then they inspect the car for any damage. Minor dents are removed by a specialist.......there is a German guy that does this at the Oxnard VDC....I think his name was Klaus. If there is damage more than just a dent then the car is taken to the body shop to be repaired. Also, on some cars they install Aero kits at the body shop if the dealer or customer has comfigured the car that way. If there are any mechanical problems then it would go to the mechanic's facility there. At the end they remove any visible swirl marks with buffers, put the manuals in the car, and put the window price sticker on. Then the cars are ready to be taken to the dealer. They park the cars in the lot as they wait for trucks to take them to the final destination (dealer).

If any of the cars that have been damaged are ordered customer cars (already sold) they have to notify the owner of the damage, but I'm not sure what happens if the damaged car is just dealer inventory cars. So any polishing residue you might have seen may be something that was left behind when they used a swirl remover......it doesn't necessarily mean that there was any damage on the car.
