what? REAR WIPER has NO adjustable intermittent mode??

When driving through the rain last night, i realized i could not get the rear wiper to adjust to the interval i wanted. I checked the manual when i got home, and there is NO description on how to do it.

In the old E53, you could adjust the rear wiper interval through an on/off/on process.... but that does NOT seem to work on the new E70's.

This is nuts. Why would they remove that? It is really needed in the rear.

Does anyone know how to do this?

No worries

I heard that the 2008s have more options for controlling the wipers.

Anyway, with that aside, I have the 2007 and when you have the auto

wiper on, the rear wiper will intermittently wipe automatically. also if you

push the wiper lever away once than it will just go intermittently. if you

push further than the washer gets sprayed.

hope that helps.

again, the rear wiper will go intermittently if you push the lever away once... but it is too long an intermittent period and it does not appear to be adjustable at all. i have 'not' found the automatic button to have any effect on the rear wiper.

The old X5 and my X3 allow this. You can program the interval.

I could not find it... What is more annoying is this - you push the lever away to get the rear wiper going, and then at some point later you pull it in to spray-clean the windshield, at this point the rear wiper is off, until you push the lever away again... Bad multi-use of the same lever !

I suggest using a product like Rain-X on the back windshield to sheet the water. It makes it much easier to see and less dependent on the rear wiper system and its short comings.

I hope that suggestion, albeit obvious, is of help. Merry Christmas everyone!

On my old 2000 Volvo without adjustable intermittent front wipers, I was able to replace the relay to make it adjustable. Turn the wiper on, then off, then when you turn it on again that was the delay. Maybe someone could do that for the rear of the X5.

Does the headlight spray work independent of the windshield washer?

no, that is another thing. you can 'not' choose when to clean the headlights... it only seems to do it with every 5 or so windshield washes. on the older x5, you could push a button to force the headlights to be cleaned AND you could adjust the rear wiper interval. i have NO idea why would they remove the rear wiper adjustability.... stupid mistake. i really think that some of the old x5 engineers left and the new ones never consulted or did the job right with certain features.

Wow, I never even knew my X5 had rear wipers, and it rains a lot here in Houston. Personally I think rear wipers are useless, giving them an adjustable intermittent feature would make it doubly useless. Who the hell spends their time driving in the rain trying to mess with the intermittent feature of REAR WIPERS anyway?
