Meaning:

"The measurements made by Ziptuning in regards to the acceleration from 0 to 100km/h after tuning are 6.2 seconds. The original acceleration was about 7.1 seconds. The biggest improvement is in the retakes from 80 to 120 km/h, you will noticed a clear difference. Topspeed will go from 235 km/h to 256 km/h.

They are also giving a reduction of diesel comsumption (at normal riding, so no kick downs ) of about 8%. If requested, the original software is put back for free.

Some companies just ask you to send them your ECU, they chip it and send it back the same day they receive it. They also claim this mod cannot be detected by your dealer, 100,000km warranty or 2yrs.

I've never done this before. I suggest you contact the company directly. They should give you clear intructions. Below is the email I received from DMS:
Thanks for the enquiry. We atke the car to 338 BHP and just under 700 Nm torque. Cost £850+vat. You would need to remove and send us the ECU. We will programme and return the same day as it is received. The upgrade is undetectable by BMW service and diagnostic equipment.

Kindest regards

If I decide to go this way, I plan to drive the car directly to Hartge in Germany. In your case, I would suggest contacting DMS http://www.dmsautomotive.com/

Just a remark, some tuners offer the measurements on the bench afterwards. Thus they are sure the tuning was done correcly.
I had the problem on my new (4000km) 320d, out of factory she had al little dip in the power graph, the tunner saw this before he perfomed tunning and send my of to my BMW garage. Something with EGR I think... So afterwards, returned to tuner and got my tuning done and validate on the bench.

In regards to your question, I don't think BMW will see the tunning. The ECU containt huge tables of hexadecimal figures defining the different setting for the motormanagement (pressure, spray, timestamp, tubo pressure, opening, pre-opening, pedal status, rpm, ...) at any given position (external temp, air temp, pressure, ...) These are adjusted by the tuners with special software, I don't think BMW can go through these with their diagnose software.

On the other hand, I know that for RR when you get a software update done your tuning will be gone...

Oh, we have send the ECU (together with te engine ) of our Porsche GT3 about 8 times from Belgium to Weissach for engine maintenance, it can handle the road trip. Just be sure to get a certified delivery, ECU is not that cheap.
