Hello Bagu

No they dont make measurements before and after.
But it was my only option
For me the Warenty of two years on this new car is very important
and Hartge is a good stable Firm with a good name

soucing up the SD

Hi Guys

I'm looking at placing an order through BMW Melbourne soon for an SD..I'm waiting to test drive hopefully this month when one lands. Thought about V8 as you get alot of extra fruit with the V8 (e.g. comfort seats, self level suspension etc) but I reckon a few mods will make the SD just as quick and overall a better daily commuter drive (with better economy but dont care so much about that)

Lets face it 95% of the time we're crawling around city / urban streets somewhere between 50 and 70 km/hr - so diesel is going to be a better bet from rolling acceleration perspective ....

anyway ..just interested in your thoughts on Aussie tuners who use the UK based chips ...I saw the post here on TUNIT.

What about these guys?
http://www.dpchip.com.au -they seem to have a unit also for the X5

Did any of you guys have a standard 3.0d tuned ? by why? did it make a noticable differenece? did anyone dyno to prove it? any good melbourne based tuners you could recommend?

I'm really keen to juice mine up a bit because in Aus they are detuned to cater for hot weather running and I suspect diesel quality not always as good as overseas. I reckon if the TUNIT dyno's are for real then the SD should be pushing around 235kw and something like 620Nm - and this should give it the same 0-100km/h as the V8 I suspect - if not a little faster .... thoughts?

Also - did you guys get an corporate discounting on the SD retail price? I'm keen to get a good deal as the options list is expensive so I want to get a good deal to help pay for things that should be standard (like Sunroof) ....

Hi anzer,

I got corporate discount on my sd in Belgium.
Agree with you on the crawling around, thats why it's nice to have the extra couple of the diesel. My friend who drives a 335 (same engine but about 800kg less...) beats the carrera s in retakes on the highway!

In regards to the options, in Belgium the sd comes standard with the self level suspension, xenon, ...

Having quality fuel is very important if you want to tune your car, I'm waiting for my X, should get it in march, so can't give you feedback yet...

I am not sure that a tuned SD will be quicker 0-100 than a 4.8. The tuned 535d is about 0.5 sec quicker than standard so using the same differential it will get close....it will be plenty quicker in gear which is where it's most important. I think a standard SD is probably as quick or quicker than a 4.8 in gear.

Well, according to DMS, their chip could shave about 1sec off the 0-100. Giving it a whopping 6secs to 100km/h. Even if the chip manages to get it to 6,5secs, that evens the 4.8 and blasts it in gear as you mentioned.

Just checked Ziptuning.nl:

The use ODB/diagnose reprogramming of original software at 599€, additonal NSA engine warranty as of 178€ :

Power advancement form:
210kW/286hp to 243kW/330hp and 580Nm to 710Nm
Topspeed from 235 km/h to 256km/h

The torque they are promising is quite high, they are going to send me an email with the measured accelaration times between tuned and non tuned car.

This is getting more and more interesting They can even boost the E53 4.4 from 320hp to 340hp for 400Euros.
Can't wait to see the 0-100km/h time difference

So, here the info from ziptuning:

"De Ziptuning uniek gemeten acceleratietijd van 0 naar 100 km/uur na tuning is 6.2 seconde. Origineel was de acceleratietijd ongeveer 7.1 seconde.
In de tussenacceleratie van 80 naar 120 km/uur zal de verbetering ook groot zijn, u merkt een duidelijk verschil. De topsnelheid stijgt van 235km/uur naar 256 km/uur"

Meaning:

"The measurements made by Ziptuning in regards to the acceleration from 0 to 100km/h after tuning are 6.2 seconds. The original acceleration was about 7.1 seconds. The biggest improvement is in the retakes from 80 to 120 km/h, you will noticed a clear difference. Topspeed will go from 235 km/h to 256 km/h.

They are also giving a reduction of diesel comsumption (at normal riding, so no kick downs ) of about 8%. If requested, the original software is put back for free.

6.2 secs to 100km/h I think that is damn good. Thanks bagu.

I'll start a new thread with info collected about chip tuning the 3.0sd by different companies. Just not to hijack this thread
