I can't understand the sentiment here about moving away from runflats. It seems to be agreed that the runflats are NOT noiser. I do not find them noisy and I am VERY happy with the handling of the X5 --- especially compared to ANY other SUV that I've driven. BMW has obviously tested these runflats and found them to be a good thing.

I plan to remain on runflats until there is a good reason to move away from them. I have not heard a good reason yet. I have driven my X5 in excess of 110 mph and it FELT AND SOUNDED GREAT!!! And for those that say they've done much higher speeds, that's not my point. I'm still running it in

Anyone, not necessarily you. Many people have discussed this topic before, but I haven't found anyone addressing my question about the structure of the tires. I'm agnostic as to anyone's personal reasons for choosing RFTs or non-RFTs.

dont get me wrong, i have driven 145 mph on my 20' dunlop runflats, but I think there are better tires than dunlop sport maxx RFT. plus, my front ones are almost gone at 11K miles. (that's an inconvenience) besides i have no problem switching to regular tires since I have a spare tire.

i have a spare. why would i need run flats? if i didn't have a spare i might look at this differently.

my last flat tire was on the track and it put me into a tire wall. quickly, too.

my X has 19's but still i plan to swap to "regalaar" tires when the time comes. are ya'll seriously worried about a blow out causing a catastrophic rollover ala every bad movie ever made? hell, with that sort of dark cloud hanging over you all the time, how do ya'll ever venture out of the house?

i guess i am missing something here. my 'vette has a can of tire goo and a pump, my ford has a spare but it sits higher than the X, and i would have to try really hard to roll the suburban.

all i can say is, if a blow out occurs and it happens to be "your time" , well there you go.

Let me rephrase, do the RFTs keep their structural integrity? Do they not "blowout"?

Less expensive and better handling is good enough for me.

i don't claim to be a tire expert but i really don't believe tires blow out with the frequency they did years ago. if your pressures are correct and you don't have extraordinary weight on the truck, then i see no reason other than a faulty tire for a blow out.

i always have heard the real basis for a run flat tire was to eliminate road side changes and thus keeping people from getting killed while changing tires. whether they handle catastrophic punctures better than a normal tire i can't say.

i am sure i am now due for about 8 flat tires in the next few months.

Ok thanks. Since I have the 3rd row and since the road noise appears to be subjective, I'll probably get the RFTs next year since they reportedly wear-out after a year (11-15k miles.)

A tire run flat allows only the rolling flat.

But it may of explosion as a classic tire
