Snap adapter & eject box install for Motorola V3
1) eject box 2) frame 3) snap adapter that I've just received for my Motorola RAZR V3 in my E70 X5. I purchased the parts from Morristown but they did not come with any instructions (apart from V3 booklet in German). Can anyone help me? I have asked Morristown if they can provide any instructions. This is the picture of the 4 "parts" I have. From left to right. 1. eject box support frame 2. eject box for snap-in 3. snap-in adapter for V3 4. RAZR V3 5. 2 screws (not shown) I was able to figure out how to get eject box (2), snap-in adapter (3), and RAZR V3 (4) connected. The challenge is how to install the eject box support frame (1) and the eject box (2) into that... Last edited by brian5; 03-19-2008 at 09:07 PM. |

I've ordered the same for my RAZR, so I'm also interested in installation instruction if it is not straight forward.

Installed the exact setup in my '07 3.0si
Brian5:
The most difficult about this install is feeding the wire and connector from the eject box snap-in/mount under the bottom of the center console storage compartment. Otherwise, the dismantling of the entire center console (or a good part of it) would be required. Let's see if I can talk you through it. 1) Disassemble the hinged plate of the mount. There is a Torx screw that is accessed from one end of the hinge. I please it's a #10 torx head. Just kind of pay attention as how it comes apart so the you can repeat the step for re-assembly. 2) Remove the back plate from the support housing. This will allow you to route the cable and connector to the back of the support, and down to the bottom of the support mounting plate (that's why you needed to take the plate apart). On the top of the support, neatly wrap the cable around the tabs on the top, then to the inside, and out the end, and on to the bottom of the mounting plate. Once the cable is routed neatly, replace the back plate removed above. 3) The AUX input connector (maybe USB on yours) and power receptacle are mounted on a plate at the front of the storage compartment. Use a small flat blade screwdriver ( or something similar) to pry this out gently from the top. With a little force, is should snap out. I snaps back in easily. With this removed, you should be able to find the harness connector for the eject box. It seems to be held lightly in place by a clamp of some sort, but I was able to pull it out with very little force. 4) Now, this was the trickiest part - used a clothes hanger starting from the front opening and fished it through to the opening where the support bracket mounts. Tape the connector/cable from the eject box to the end of the clothes hanger using electrical tape. Wrap it so that the connector will not be pulled from the end of the hanger, but keep it as small as possible - the easier it will be to pull it through to the front opening. 5) If you're successful with the pull through, that's pretty much it. Mate the connectors and mount the support bracket with the 2 screws. Snap the phone adapter into the eject box. That's it. Before I did this, I didn't know how to remove the storage compartment. Now that I do, I'm still glad I tried that method first - a lot less work and dismantling of the interior. Good luck Srfishooks

srfishooks,
Thanks for those instructions!!! I'll try them out tomorrow. I was able to find "Phone Docking Cradle Retrofit Installation Instructions" on the web but it did not have X5 or X3 (any models) in it. |

Srfishooks,
Looking at your instructions, I have some questions and some confirmations that I 'd appreciate. 1) Disassemble the hinged plate of the mount. There is a Torx screw that is accessed from one end of the hinge. I please it's a #10 torx head. Just kind of pay attention as how it comes apart so the you can repeat the step for re-assembly. This is the eject box support frame (which is on the left in my picture above)? 2) Remove the back plate from the support housing. Remove the back of the support frame which is the long smooth underside of the eject box support frame? Does that back plate just clip off? This will allow you to route the cable and connector to the back of the support, and down to the bottom of the support mounting plate (that's why you needed to take the plate apart). This would be the cable and connector from the eject box (second from left in my picture) through the support frame? On the top of the support, neatly wrap the cable around the tabs on the top, then to the inside, and out the end, and on to the bottom of the mounting plate. So thread the cable and connector through the large opening in the top of the support frame? Once the cable is routed neatly, replace the back plate removed above. Where will the cable and connector finally be coming out of? Through the support bracket on the eject box support frame? 3) The AUX input connector (maybe USB on yours) and power receptacle are mounted on a plate at the front of the storage compartment. Use a small flat blade screwdriver ( or something similar) to pry this out gently from the top. With a little force, is should snap out. I snaps back in easily. With this removed, you should be able to find the harness connector for the eject box. It seems to be held lightly in place by a clamp of some sort, but I was able to pull it out with very little force. This is clear and I have the AUX input (iPod) connector. 4) Now, this was the trickiest part - used a clothes hanger starting from the front opening and fished it through to the opening where the support bracket mounts. Is the "front opening" the opening for the AUX input connector? And fish it through underneath the center console to the back? The "support bracket" is the back of the support frame? Tape the connector/cable from the eject box to the end of the clothes hanger using electrical tape. Wrap it so that the connector will not be pulled from the end of the hanger, but keep it as small as possible - the easier it will be to pull it through to the front opening. One thing that wasn't covered was how I remove the existing black plastic cover at the back of the storage compartment so that I can put the eject box support frame in place. Do I just pry that off with a screwdriver? 5) If you're successful with the pull through, that's pretty much it. Mate the connectors and mount the support bracket with the 2 screws. Snap the phone adapter into the eject box. That's it. Before I did this, I didn't know how to remove the storage compartment. Now that I do, I'm still glad I tried that method first - a lot less work and dismantling of the interior. Thanks for your help! Last edited by brian5; 03-20-2008 at 06:59 AM. |

Followup on Installation of Support Arm/Eject box
1) This is the eject box support frame (which is on the left in my picture above)? CORRECT
2) Remove the back of the support frame which is the long smooth underside of the eject box support frame? Does that back plate just clip off? Correct. If I remember correctly, there are a couple of small screws that need to be removed, then the backside cover sides, then lifts off. This would be the cable and connector from the eject box (second from left in my picture) through the support frame? YES. So thread the cable and connector through the large opening in the top of the support frame? YES. Where will the cable and connector finally be coming out of? Through the support bracket on the eject box support frame? It will come out at the tail end of the support Frame mounting plate. 3) This is clear and I have the AUX input (iPod) connector. 4) Is the "front opening" the opening for the AUX input connector? Yes, the opening created when the AUX connector plate is removed. And fish it through underneath the center console to the back? Roger that! The "support bracket" is the back of the support frame? You got It!One thing that wasn't covered was how I remove the existing black plastic cover at the back of the storage compartment so that I can put the eject box support frame in place. Do I just pry that off with a screwdriver? Yes, same as you did with the AUX connector plate. Try the vertical long side.

V3 Snap-in Adaptor
Anybody want to buy my unused Motorola V3 snap-in adaptor for the E70? I purchased this via BMW Morristown several months ago but have not used after I discovered I needed eject box etc to make it really workable. It is BMW part number 84.21-0 415 023 and available at discount price of $100 with buyer paying the shipping? PM me if interested. Thanks.

Srfishhooks,
Thanks to your instructions and the BMW Installation instructions that Morristown BMW sent me, I have completed some of the installation. a. the eject box, frame and snap adapter are connected together (1st image) b. I have the rear cover and front covers unclipped in the center console. c. The 2nd image show the front of the center console (side view). The 3rd image show the front of the center console (back view). I have the iPod and USB (6FL) connection. d. The 4th image is an extract from the BMW installation instructions. You had given me the instructions on using the hanger wire to pull the eject box under the center console. Those are clear. The big question that I have is where to connect the two plugs from the eject box onto the car?? I don't see anywhere to plug those into. Thanks Last edited by brian5; 03-30-2008 at 03:27 PM. |
