I would tend to trust the stick more than an electrical sensor though.

5425 miles on mine, oil level is OK. And I do drive it in "spirited" way quite a lot

Re the stick... I believe I have one. Will double check later this week, but did not someone said before that 4.8s have one, but 3.0 dont ???

i lucked up and got a dipstick. December build. anyway, do an oil change "Cmyx5go". i burnt probably slightly less in 3 months in 7k miles or so. the idiot sensor never lit up, but the oil level sensor was looking kinda low. i wish i had done my first oil change earlier.

15k between oil changes is BS. every 7500 at a minimum IMO.

this being your first 5k miles, maybe it is just growing pains.

Same kinda thing happened to me. I didn't even realize I was low on oil considering the 15,000 mi intervals. As soon as I clocked off 8k, the oil light came on. I took it to the dealer and it seemed that there was hardly anything left in it. I was actually dissapointed considering my 04 nor my 06 3L X5 was never low on oil.

E61Silver is an unknown quantity at this point
My 2004 X5 4.4 was almost a quart low, when I got it new, yes it had an old reliable dip stick.

My suggestion is to add a quart and see what happens. Since you lease I am not sure that I would spring for a oil change.

Soldmystang, did I read your post correctly? Do you have a 2008 X5 E70 with a dipstick?

I'm picking mine up at PCD next week and I hope I have one too.

I hate the idrive Oil sensor, I don't trust it too much! I like the old fashion Dipstick, fast and easy! Plus you can use it to whip your wife for driving the X5 into a puddle of water, after you have waxed and polish all day.

cmyX6go will become famous soon enough
Dealer topped it off, I need to schedule an appt to check out the sensor. They said it should come on everytime I shut the engine if the oil is low.

My E53s didn't burn as much oil. I usually needed a quart just about the time I was due for an oil change.

I believe the V-8 has a dipstick, but the I-6 does not.

I do have a 2008 4.8i. I opened the hood and didn't see a dipstick. I didn't really look too hard, maybe it's hidden in there someplace.
