Which 20' Tire? Bridgestone or Michelin?

I'm in TX also. Recently replaced the Dunlop runflats with the Michelin Latitude all-seasons. The all-season tread is not as aggressive looking, but they ride much better than the runflats and I haven't noticed any drop in handling capability.

My Dunlops had about 6K miles when I replaced them. My guess is I'd be lucky to get a total of 12K miles out of them. The new Michelins should last much longer (and they cost a little less).

Why did you replace them at 6K when you might have been able to get 12K out of them? Was it the noise?

I would go with all seasons--they will last longer because they are a harder compound (summer tires are softer). Honestly, I don't think you would be able to tell a difference in the X5 between summer and all-season as far as performance. I'm on my 2nd set of Michelins on my e53--I got 60K miles on the first set. I would guess you should get 20K-30K on the 20's on the e70 in the Lattitudes.

The noise wasn't (yet) an issue for me. I lease the vehicle. In a few years, when the Michelins are about done, I'll put the Dunlops back on right before I turn the vehicle back to BMWFS. The Dunlops still have enough tread to avoid any tire replacement fees. Also, not sure if it's true or not, but some have said that BMWFS requires that the tires on lease returns meet original specs - which could be interpreted as runflats.

Don't get the Latitude's, that be a waste. Go for the Advans or Diamaris.

aren't Diamaris noisy? I drove an e53 4.4 with them on, and it seemed pretty noisy. Did you have a bad experience with the Latitudes?

I don't mind the Dunlops. I need to replace the fronts, but I don't see why I should have to change out all 4 just to go with another brand. Seems like a waste of dough to me.

All-seasons are always going to be a compromise in performance; a compromise you don't need to make living where you do.

I've only driven an E53 with Diamaris a few times and didn't find them noisy. They're a great tire; very good with steering input, responsive. For a street vehicle, ultimate grip shouldn't be a concern, esp in an suv.

I hear the Advan's are good too. Supposed to be a softer compound so it might affect wear. Should be something you can easily check on tirerack.

Take it from someone who has had plenty of experience with Michelin Latitude and Diamaris...fit Brigestone Dueller HPs.
