Numerous Problems, No Fixes Photos Added

Added photos of placing a dry pan under rear right door, then opening door after a 5 hour rain. Note water in pan that came from between door seals. Water comes in at the upper corner. water appeared to be coming out of the door panel but i did not get a decent picture. i have more pictures.

Just got my '07 3.0 X5 back from 2 days at the dealers. Left it with the following list of issues:
1.Back passenger’s door is still holding water after a rain. More water accumulates during a lighter and longer rain than during a hard rain or washing the vehicle. Water is between the door and the sill.
2.Navigation system occasionally goes black and reloads. At other times displays a message that there is a problem with the CD drive. Unloading and reloading the CD will temporally fix the problem.
3.Automatic windshield washer setting will operate normally for a while and then goes to continuous operation. Some times turning the wipers off will reset it, other times not.
5.Right side front park distance control unit occasionally indicates that it is close to an object when there is nothing close by. Tried cleaning it, didn’t help.
6.When first started engine will occasionally run rough and is very sluggish for 5 to 15 seconds. (Reported before).
7.Gasoline mileage varies extremely. Most of my driving is the same routes and same style. Averages as low as 14.5 MPG and as high as 19.0 around town. Drove to Illinois 2 weeks ago, averaged 66.7 MPH and got 25.4 MPG. Went to the airport Saturday morning early, never exceeded 65 MPH, very steady conservative drive and got 20.2 MPG. All MPG figures are from the OBC. This is very a very real problem and must be addressed.
9.The video quality from the back up camera sucks.
Here are edited version of their answers:
#1. Checked all seals and door adjustments/ok. This part of the vehcile does not have a water drain/normal condition. I was told to it is the "nature of the beast" and nothing will be done. Live with it.
#2. Cannot confirm complaint. No faults stored. No bus problems. Test drove/no problems. No SIBS. Told to bring it in if it fails again.
#3. Working properly. No faults/no SIBS. It all depends on how the rain falls onto the sensor.
#5. Cannot confirm. PDC working properly. Sensors working properly.
#6. Cannot confirm. Alcohol level ok. recomended top tier fuel and fuel injector cleaning (has 12500 miles).
#7. Recomended top tier fuel.
#9. Normal video quality for vechile. Compared to another X5/same quality.
So i have a $56,000+ vechile that runs rough, holds water, loses navigation and all function on the LCD. Gas mileage all over the place and a PDC that sees ghosts and a video camera that can't see. And all they can say is live with it and bring it in if it happens again. How embrassing and disappointing.

Sorry to hear about your issues, I have experienced some of these issues and the dealer promptly addressed them.

Regarding #1, 7 and 9:
1. Unfortunatley, this is a design problem, not much the dealer can do about it.
7. The mpg from the computer is just an average, they only way to get a true reading is over long distance. You cant expect to make comparison on multiple short trips and expect them to be accurate compared with long trips.
9. The camera sucks at night, no question. Not much the dealer can do about this as its a design decision from BMW. Call the 800 number and complain, maybe after enough of us complain they will do something. The dealers hands are tied. BTW- There are multiple threads on this topic alone.

I find that your attitude has alot to due with how a dealer treats you, if you go in with a good attitude and ask for help with your problems it goes along way toward how they work with you. I'm not saying this is right, bottom line is the dealer should address everyones issues equally, but its just how it is.

BTW- have you used regular fuel?
How many miles do you have?

More Info

Thanks for the reply. I use virtually nothing but BP Premium. 12500+ miles. I am not comparing long and short trips, only like useage. Some weeks or days it will perform great and the next day the mileage goes to hell even though the conditions are the same or even better. The nav/associated functions quit the 2nd day i had the car. took them 2 days to fix it, so this is not a new issue. i want to know why it is not storing faults with all the failures it has. The garage door opener functions about half of the time but they forgot to add it to the list. anyway i have a very good relationship with the dealer as we have have bought somewhere between 12 and 20 BMWs.

The dealers favourite line is "worked fine when we tested it." I hate that. I wouldn't bring it in if it worked!!!!! Some faults are intermittent but they just don't want to know. Write to BMW customer services. It works sometimes.

I've found that the homelink/garage opener only works when the car engine is on/running. Even if you're just in accessories mode hanging out in your driveway, the whole mirror is still off (notice no compass bearing either). Found this to be a bother as sometimes I don't want to run back into the house to open the garage door (I park outside in the summer) - and I surely don't want to turn the X engine on just to open it either.

Thanks. I will check that out and see if mine is the same. If so, that's like not having a real neutral position so you can roll your X and not being able to drive it with the door open. Wonder if those Germans have ever heard of customer input or at least focus groups.

Wasn't the X5 designed for Americans?

What, problems with the X5? NO! This can't be true, as there are no problems with the X5, and even if the X5 did have problems...it would be ok, because it's a BMW, and people only buy BMWs for their engines and handling capabilities. People expect BMWs to leak, electronics to be very poor and lots of software glitches

I know...Whining, complaining, bitching, I should just sell it, stop nit-picking.... Save the hate posts!

One of my biggest beefs with dealers are when they say, "we cannot reproduce the problem." I remember one time I was so angry, I replied, "You're right. I made it up. I was bored, had nothing better to do with my time, so I made up a few problems and then brought it in to see if you'd catch me."

I wonder if the fuel mileage is influenced by temperature? I've noted that warmer weather, or colder weather, influences my mileage. I presume it is the AC, in addition to air density having an impact. It's a reach, I know.

I don't buy #1. I've never had this problem. It sounds like the outer seal leaks, and the inner seal holds the water in. Hardly what I'd call a normal condition.

Check your state law on ethanol. Most states do not require stores to post on the dispensor whether there is alcohol in the fuel. This was a result of the corn/ethanol lobby because a big percentage of people would not buy the fuel if it had alcohol in it and they used to post it on the dispensor. So they repealed the law and now most states don't require posting that there is alcohol in the fuel. Now the kicker is stores can change back and forth depending on cost so you don't know what's in the fuel. Bottom line if you burn ethanol you will get 10 to 20 percent less mileage depending on the time of year. As long as the fuel meets the octane requirments it is legal to do this. Now don't hold me to the 10 to 20 as I have read this several places but don't know the exact figure but do know it works out about that way.
