Style 214's + TPMS

Hey,

I just got my 214's installed and i noticed they dont have the TPM sensors like my stock 18's did. Now im getting the tire light on the dashboard lit up. Is there a way I can disable this TPM or do I HAVE to remove the sensors from the 18's and place them on the 20's ? I did reset it but it didnt seem to do anything since there arent any sensors in place to be reset.

Thanks a lot.

My guy put them on the new tires for free but of course I had to ask. The reset basically puts it at a reference point so it knows if it has deflated from there. Get them moved in.

if you don't want to remove it from the old tires because they will charge you for mount and dismount tires you could always buy new ones and put it in. I don't know how much it's going to run you tho..

I don't believe the X5 has any wheel sensors.

BMW RPA (Run Flat Indicator) principle: If a tyre loses pressure its rolling radius changes, and this in turn alters the speed of rotation. This change is detected and reported as tyre failure.

That means the X5 like other BMW cars(5 ,6 ,7 series) uses the abs wheel speed sensors and detects a change in wheel speed as the rolling circumference of the tyre changes when deflated.

^ a few threads including this one indicate the direct system is supposedly required by law... and after all discussions it's pretty evident it's the direct system in the E70s (but BMW decides not to display the individual #s).

It's possible for U.S. models to use
RDC which actually uses radio sensors in each wheel attatched to the back of the tyre valve.
But I'm pretty sure my X5 (european model) doesn't have sensors ,as the dealer told me.

I took mine out of my 19's and put them into my 20's (not myself but the tire shop)

Agree with you there Fastbuck.

BMW use 2 different monitoring systems in the X5. The first one uses the ABS sensors to measure changes in the diameter of the wheel/tyre setup. The second method uses direct pressure sensors.

Depending on which country the car is sold in will determine which sensor setup you will have. I believe USA has the direct sensor mechanism whilst countries like Uk and Australia have the indirect method.

In the US, its rdc, direct. Call Luke @ the Tire Rack and order them. They are the exact ones used by BMW for 1/4 the price. Easy to install.
