No, I'm purchasing the car. It's too late to make any changes to my order. I've been told it's in production. I have navigation in my Lexus LS 460. I decided not to wait and the dealer gave me a good price. I had told them, I was going to wait and the price kept falling. If I don't like the I drive, I can always trade it in a couple of years. My Infiniti QX4 is 8 years old and it's time for something different.

Happy Thanksgiving,

Craig

Craig: This whole new iDrive/old iDrive thing is neither here nor there. In the end it only operates the ancillary systems, none of which are vital or all that important. For me, as long as the radio works and I can pick up the cricket I'm happy.
What's more important is the way the car drives. If the US diesel is only half as good as the rest-of-world oilers (and it will be way better than that, rest assured) it will be great.

Thanks Fraser, I agree with you, I looked at the old I drive and the new one at the dealer. I was going to wait, but decided I didn't want to wait another year for the new I drive. It should be nice.

Regards,

Craig

Still after 700 views, i think he is the only one getting a diesel. At 2.05/gal for premium in NJ people are not interested in potential gas savings anymore, if you want more power then, are you willing to spend 4000K for more power?. If the answer is yes, then go for it.

BMW's timing of the launch of the diesel in the US is unfortunate in as much the whole new-car market is slowing and the cost of petrol has nose-dived while diesel has more or less held up. I'm not surprised that the diesel seems to have attracted little interest.
But this is not only a case of relative fuel costs v fuel economy. The diesel has more bottom-end punch than the 4.8 V8 and is great to drive, or at least that's how the ROW diesels go. Can't see how the US models won't go well given that they match the ROW for torque (that's what it's all about here) even if they seem to give away some power.
Only time will tell but I'm betting that the diesel will catch on in the US eventually unless the disparity in diesel/petrol prices really blows out. Or if the turbo petrol engines find their way in the X5 in the next couple of years, that could also kill the diesel.

I wonder how the new 3-series diesel is doing for sales figures so far.

Well, if I'm the only one, I will let everyone know how it drives when I take delivery. It's in production now, but I'm going to wait until January 2nd to take delivery. It might show up at the dealer the second or third week in December. I will be at the dealer December 23rd and will at least be able to look at it. I purchased it out of town.

There would be two of us diesel buyers if it had included the new iDrive

Question I will order, but questions first...

I will be ordering one sometime, but I want a few definitive answers 1st.

1. Is the new I-Drive coming in March 09 or MY2010? I'll wait until March to find out if I have to.

2. Will this car quality for the 0.9% or 3.9% financing? If it doesn't now, I suspect it will after a few months, especially if sales don't go as well as expected.

3. No one has the wholesale pricing that I have found yet. I want this information before I attempt to make a deal.

I think invoice is msrp less 9%. Not sure if there is any factory to dealer cash though.
