Can the x5 tow a 24 ft boat?

Hi guys, i currently bought a 240 Boston whaler outrage and the dry weight with no engine is 4400lbs and the boat have a twin 135 mercury motor which weighs about 1000lbs. Also the boat takes up 500 gal of fuel (we wont tow it when its full tho) + the trailer weight (witch i don't whats the weight)
I'm wondering can the x5 tow the boat?
i have a 2008 x5 4.8 with oem towing hitch

5,000 lbs is capacity I think. usually 10% for tongue weight. I'd find a larger tow vehicle for a margin of safety. It sounds like you will be overweight anyway.

Some ppl told me that the 4.8 x5 can tow it and some ppl say it cant, i went to the dealer and ask, they said that the car can probably tow the boat but they said the hitch wont stand that weight.
im just wondering, is there any one who tow a object as heavy as my boat

The Australian towbar handles 2700kg of pulling weight and you would need electric brakes brakes of some sort for a boat trailer that large, you also need to balance the boat on the tralier so that you do not go over the laiden dead weight on the towbar itself.

Otherwise buy a Q7 they have a capacity of 3500kg!

Your vehicle is rated to tow 6000 lbs, and with the boat, motors, and gear, as well as the empty trailer weight you will be over that. The vehicle is capable of towing that weight, but be aware that you are beyond the manufacturer's recommendations. Trailer brakes are mandatory for any trailer over 1600 lb.

If you do a search on user 'withidl' on this site you will see pictures of his 8300 lb Airstream behind his E53, with an equalizing hitch. He has a lot of miles on that rig, so the capability is there. It is just that you need to take precautions, and realize that is a lot of weight to be pulling.
